Farley Eden 2-8 The Eagles
Both sides chose to ignore the full 10 player rotation system & opt for the more result conscious line ups. Eagles adopted a 2-2-2-2-1-1 formation. Eden displayed the more traditional 2-2-2-1-1-1-1 line-up.
Opening 3 frames set the tone for the night. 2-1 down and we felt we should have been in front. The white went down off 4 breaks we had & you're up against it when you immediately lose control of the game early doors to a side like the Eagles. They took every opportunity we gave them last night & you expect nothing less from the defending champions...
Taking our positives from the match, it was a nice debut win from Scott Harkness. By the way our solitary two wins came against the Eagles England international! Don't know about all this college stuff he is up to, it looked like he needs to go back to pool school....
Sickest black of the night award goes to Mr Kelly, it was rude.

cannot dispute anything Alex said result was very flattering , shame Jake didn't turn up, but young Tommy Telford isn't ready for a match like this yet and I am playing so rubbish at the moment team selection was a no brainer. Hughies son Tommy has got some ability so he will be playing all cup comps to try and bring him through from the youth system rather than buying expensive contenental players, having said that if a good one does come along maybe next week???????????
ps how did the Unpredictables or Hot shots get on |

I had my annual abortion of a game with Scott, and other than Hughie, and Esgrove for us there wasnt a great deal of quality on offer... First game of the season and all that, but we are obvioulsy delighted with an 8-2, when any win would have been taken without even turning up.

bromley cuemasters 2-8 hot shots
one word.!.! RUBBISH... no complaints at all last night we got what we deserved. credit to the hot shots who took out the pots that mattered, certainly on last night performance they will be a major threat to the prop n eagles if rod and sean play 4 of the 10 frames on offer as they surely will,! and with eldridge n bushell in good form they will surely challenge. we will have to improve 110% per cent for next weeks visit to the eagles in what is a very tough start to the season for us! we all definately need to try to actually practice more often instead of opening out cue cases once a week for 2 solitary frames of pool or i fear this season we maybe in trouble.

we may need a bigger boat..! |

All three favourites to battle for the title have hit the ground running. We just made it too easy for the Hot Shots in too many games, giving them two visits, missing chances. Rod missed an easy clearance against me to make it 7-0. For the record they had Halligan, Altes, Eldridge, Snyman and Bushell, employing the 2-2-2-2-2 formation. |

London Snooker 4 6 Unpreds
Great to see 4 of my old teammates from the class '86 still playing together. With 88+ years of experience between them they may not be the whipping boys we expected.
Can't believe after 22 years these old fogeys still have the cheek to pick up a cue!

i might be looking at this wrong, but when you say 2-2-2-2-2 formation are you sayin that they play 2 frames one after the other?
eg.
P1 Halligan
P2 Halligan
P3 Altes
P4 Altes
P5 Eldridge
P6 Eldridge
P7 Snyman
P8 Snyman
P9 Bushell
P10 Bushell

I was taking the mick out of The Power's earlier post. It just means they had 5 players who all played twice. They had two reserves. |

Patriots 7-3 Legion
Not much good pool going on, but a fair result.
More importantly, a very enjoyable evening with the Patriot lads. Game played in good spirits with alot of piss taking & laughs from either side.
A very good night.
I also thought that the above posts meant the Eagles & Hot shots had the same player playing twice in row in the same half too, but obviously not as that isn't allowed
I would rather be playing golf |

I think the rule change to allow a min of 5 players may only exacerbate the them and us divide in div 1 and others.
It is easily abused so you just play your best 5 players twice.
It could end up having the opposite effect to that intended of keeping more teams going and therefore more players, it may end up reducing the fringe players if teams only play their best 5.
I think over time this will need to be addressed.
as for last night, we were awful but now we have a huge squad at least we can drop players who are not improving! |

I agree with Sting to a certain degree, though this is sport and it should be competitive and I expected nothing less in the winter.
Bottom line is the top teams have more at stake, and they were never going to put players in that aren't going to guarantee them points. There are no prizes for playing your full squad each week and then rolling in at the end of the season in 3rd or 4th spot.
Likewise, its the same for the sides who will be scrapping it out to stay in Div 1. When it comes to the crunch, there won't be too many captains not sticking some of their better players back in the 2nd set to try and earn a few vital points.
2x5 provides flexibility to teams with big or small squads & this has to be more popular to every side in the league. Some squads may have too many players onboard and the fall out has all ready seen more players moving around teams then they did under the old format.
One example, was I heard b4 the start of the season that the Prop were only going to play 5 each week. However, on Tuesday I hear they played a full sqaud of 9 with Morray getting 2 frames. Result 10 zip.
Eagles didn't spring any surprises. Nuttmeg hardly ever played against us under the old 7 frame format and they kept their young kid on the bench. We left 4 on the bench and went for the result. Lost 8-2.

doubt if a player who wants to play at least one frame a week will put up for long not playing at all, and the day they get fed up and leave will probably be the day you need them. I reiterate on tuesday because Danny has gone north and Jake didn't turn up it left us with just six 1st team players, thats who played. |
