The Better Halfs 7 - 3 Waddon B
I don't usually post threads on here but I have to do this one because I can't keep laughing to myself.
We had a game in progress and and being refereed by a division 1 player who was visiting and obviously not playing for his team tonight. He encountered what he believed to be the introduction of an illegal shot on the table whereby the player in control was seated upon the table with both feet off the floor. Our Ref very quickly approached him and advised him accordingly. The player in control acknowledged the advise from the ref but did'nt really move from his seated position but seemed to be twiddling around with something. He then advised the ref that he now as one foot on the floor and pointed towards it. Our ref then walked around the table to have a look only to find that the player had released his artificial limb and left it on the floor.
Can you imagine the laughter in the house and moreso the look upon our visiting ref's face.
All in all the waddon B are a great bunch of guys and it was a great match to end the season on.
Well done to the Crouching Chicken and The Jolly Sailor. |

Floozies 8 v 2 Royal Joakers
Good team effort and proves that when we can get a good side out we can do a bit of damage. That said the Joakers were a little unlucky and could have made it a little closer.
I had to laugh when their secretary told me that earlier in the season that another sec put his cue away before the secretaries frame saying ?You don?t want to play it. I?m second!? Does that really happen? I have played every single one of my secretary?s frames when there has been someone there to play.
Congrats to the winners and runners up.
What happened to our week off?

ERRRRRR ..... Did he not go on to say that my reason for such a request was because there was disturbance in the house amongst team mates and that my entire attention to the whole nights event was diminished. You will know well yourself that it is our responsibility to police our teams.
Where as he finished in the division amongst Secretaries !!!:three: |

Oh it was you was it? He didn't mention that but surely if you felt it would cause aggravation to play it surely you forfeit it rather than ask to be given a win.
At the end of the day it's a competition and it's a bit cheeky to ask and get given frames that others in the competition rightly play to win.
Assuming you won your frame last night are joint 3rd with me unless Saxton lost then there will be a play off for 2nd place. I lost the opening 4 frames (first one was a bye) in this so if I make the play off I'll be gobsmacked! |

Duke of Gloucester 3 -7 Thicket Tavern
I do hope that the developers who are planning to turn the Gloucester into houses (work scheduled to commence May 09) will have a rethink within the current economic climate and decide to keep it going as a pub concern. We enjoyed the friendly banter, although their team was let down by some astonishing last (black) ball errors in 3 of their games. The Thicket have had their first win since Gary Hemingway's resignation, and are looking forward to a return visit to DoG in the opening fixture of the winter league in 2 weeks time.
It has been an interesting summer season, thanks to all other Div V sides for making it so enjoyable, with a special mention to the Bye team who very nearly managed to win a game against Micky Ashton, by default, but in the end it was not to be.
We'll be sending a 'you are welcome' party over to the Better Half's fairly soon, as discussed last week! |

Its why the Secretaries competion in its present format is a complete farce. Purely guesswork but id imagine 50% of games aret given, and in addition secretaries play some if the dont like the other team and give other games to different secretaries.
I think it should be a k/o comp personally.

I will be making my debut as Secretary in the coming winter season and I will be abiding by one rule - no safety shots. |

Fair comment Shaggy. That said I haven't been given a single one (by a person who was there and otherwise able to play it). I guess it's that mentality that says she's only a girl at least I can win this one! |

I have no objections to secretaries not playing their games so long as they are consistent and don't play any of them. |

Oh yes it was I (as if you did'nt know that in the first place)
Do you ever remember me coming to you with such comment ? I forget now, what was the score between you and I throughout the summer leagues secretaries matches ?
What's the point in you and I debating something which is of no benefit to us now and we will both be watching the winners collect there trophies.
I wish you and your team all the very best in the winter league. |

Sorry but even I can't tell who is sitting behind the keyboard typing the posts!!
You've missed the point I'm making completely as you seem to making this into an issue over whether or not the outcome is affected and the fact that you beat me twice. That has no bearing whatsoever on the point I was making. The point I've made is that I feel it is unsporting to ask your opponent to give you a win rather than play the frame. You clearly think it's ok as you're not even making an argument.
Let's agree to disagree on this one. Good luck for the new season.
