We were eligible to enter Champion of Champions as Summer champions and had to play off for a place at Yarmouth away at Woolwich. The format is 2 sets of 7 and a one frame decider if needed. They were a man short but the omens seemed to be against us after losing the first three with John Little going in off in the middle at an impossible angle after screwing back from a straight pot down the rail, then their man clearing up after a fluke. We managed to somehow get ourselves out of a hole including them missing an easy black, and won the next three. It was 4-3 at half time, soon to be 4-4, but a great piece of fudging by Lee Bushell and a couple of good finishes took us over the winning line. A good way to warm up for the new season.
