Just a quick question
Are there any "Official" rules for doubles matches
More or less everyone know you can't talk to your partner after you have touched the table as you are deemed to be in play, & any discussion with your partner half way through a visit to the table is not allowed, but what if someone called foul on you for talking your partner half way through a visit & you replied "why, where does it say in any rules i can't talk to my partner half way through a visit". Would there be any official stance for them to say it is actually a foul ?
Secondly, totally forgetting the above question. Can you talk to your partner after "breaking off" IE:- I break, pot yellow & a red, & then talk to my partner to decide which colour to take, without it being called as a foul. With "normal rules" resuming after that with no discussion once you are deemed to be at the table ?.
I would rather be playing golf |

Im not sure if there are official rules about talking to a partner mid visit.
On your second point, my understanding is that if you have potted any balls off the break you can discuss which colour to go for until you have nominated. |

As far as I know, once the balls have been broke you're not allowed to discuss anything with your partner as your visit has commenced . .
There is a bit of a grey area in respect of the moment you can no longer discuss things with your partner . . I've seen extreme cases where someone has leant on the table whilst discussing it and people try to call a foul . . I've always gone with as soon as a shot has been played then the visit has commenced and there is no further conversation until the visit is over . . |

Under world rules you are in control of the table from the moment the balls come to rest from the previous shot. My understanding of it therefore is that you can only discuss the frame with your partner while the opposition have control of the table. |

You're right but I don't think it applies that literally in the league . . |

The World Rules Guidance is:
In doubles, talking between partners is allowed from the point balls stop moving at the end of a partner?s turn (throughout the opponent?s turn), and until the cue ball is struck at the beginning of the other partners turn. However, only the player whose turn it is, is allowed to touch the table (rule K10).
The last sentence doesn't apply to the Croydon League because K10 was specifically excluded.
I have been warned that this guidance is liable to change at the next revision and it will probably go back to whether a player has touched the table.
Personally I think that Doubles partners should be allowed to confer after a ball is potted from the break. |
