How are the newly introduced plate events being received so far? Are teams taking them as seriously as they did the main events? Are there more or less instances of players not fulfiling fixtures? |

I think if you look at the number of unfulfilled fixtures or pending results still to come in each week and compare that to the main event, you have your answer.
For some when you are out you're out, and it frees up a Monday night, so I am delighted as a div 1 player we are not in this. |

it would appear that the singles/doubles plates are not being taken seriously at all;based on feedback from my team and those I have had the pleasure of discussing with. That said, the k/o plate has given the lower league teams a realistic chance of winning something and has been received reasonably well. This opinion could easily be reversed depending on the team/individuals circumstances....personally I would scrap them!!! |

Is anyone going to propose that the plate competitions are scrapped? |

The plate comps will stay because the rubbish players want them. |

Why not just make the plate comps open to ALL prelim and first round losers in the singles, doubles and K/O cup??
It would then give everyone a second bite at the cherry. |

It would certainly reduce the 'us and them' factor . .
I trust you will propose this at the AGM Andy |

Understood by the comments that have been posted, however, being that im in this comp (coz im rubbish) and i don't play pool that often, obviously im still playing my games to win and taking it seriously, most other people ive spoken to find it as another competitive match so therefor more match practise, but again its just a matter of opinoun.
hhmmmmm Nice Baps....... |

Call me a rubbish player if you want (and I know some will), but from my point of view, I'm enjoying the plate. I was beaten by a team-mate in the first round proper, and I'm only in the plate now because I beat John Baylis in the last round (a result I would not have asked anyone to put money on).
I take it very seriously - if I didn't play to win every game, I wouldn't be in this draw. I might not win it, but I'll give it a damn good try....silverware doesn't cross my doorstep often enough....I'm just pleased to be in the last 32. |

I voted for the plates at the AGM, as I think they do have thier place.
I voted against segregration of the plate, as I think that's just plain daft!
Prelim + First round losers = Plate entries, regardless of divisional status, that's what I hoped would be applied.
If players then do not want to take up thier place in the plate, simply call your opponent, and give them the game! Easy.
As seen in this thread, two respected members of our league Statto and Mickey OAPeodaphile are still playing to win and taking it seriousley. I'm sure they're not the only two.
By the time of the quarters, the competition and determination to win will be as fierce in the plate as it is in the main.
It will always be in the shadow of the main, and rightly so, but that shouldn't take anything away from it.
Think of it in football terms. Champions League vs. UEFA Cup
or FA Cup vs. League/Carling/Worthington/Coca Cola Cup.
There is room for both, and both of them know thier place.

Sorry, I will rephrase my post.
The rubbish players are the ones who voted that ALL Division One players should be excluded from the plate comps. The people who voted for 'equality amongst trophies being the same size as we all pay the same League entry fees' and then voted for there to be 3 extra competitions for that money that the Division One players can't be included in. . .
What's that word again? Oh yeah, hypocritical.

I'm intrigued to see how this equality for all trophies nonsense works out tonight . .
. . if it's shiny trophies they want I am sure a few of us could get together and have a clear out as I'm sure there's a few hundred knocking around in various lofts and box rooms . . |
