Thoroughly enjoyable day, smoothly run comp, I know me and the boys from Bromley had a good laugh yesterday.

Congrats to Paul on the win.

a well run comp all went very smooth so well done to the organisers!applause well done to shaggy for claiming the spoils on the day!

the only negative side from what i heard and saw was the condition of some of the tables! to many rolls and were obviously not level which is a shame as i have always found the tables to be of a very good standard over the years!

Anyway back on topic, in my opinion was a really good day yesterday, I thought the main comp ran very smoothly and I know Paul had 29/30 entries in the plate which was pleasing to see, well done to shaggy who probably had the toughest draw of the day and still came out on top! any feed back good points, bad points, things that can be improved on pls let us know

Thank you Kyle but I'm not *******stirring because I have nothing better to do. I'm expressing my disappointment at the fact you and Paul have transformed a hugely successful Open event into the worst attended February Croydon event in its history and you seem to consider it an achievement!!

Sorry if you don't like facts but perhaps its time you faced them.

If i'm not mistaken (I'm not) Paul said that there was going to be the Croydon Open held later in the year. Surely 2 comps is better than one?? confused

I have never disputed that 2 comps are not better than one but when you have spent 5 years building up an Open competition and its reputation not just in Croydon but across London and the South East you don't go changing it to a closed event and starting a new Open competition on a different date 'to be decided' and lose all the goodwill built up by that hard work.

I've had at least 10 people ask me what has happened to the Croydon Open this year and I've had to be diplomatic and say I don't know.

Now I've had an 'organiser' call me a *******stirrer for having an opinion. It just gets better and better.

The Croydon Open will be later in the year, personly I felt that it was a great idea to have a closed comp for Croydon Players only. In the Croydon Open you only ever see 1st division with the occasional lower division players, due to the prospect of the South Easts best players being there. So it's only fair to give all the Croydon Players a comp and the much larger Croydon Open will be advertised when all the details are known, which will undoubtably bring in much more players as it has previously done. I don't see how changing date ruins and destroys it.

Why are you arguing a point that I'm not even disputing Tom?? Did you misunderstand my post?

If you hold a competition year on year on the same date then people know who won it last time, people want to improve on their performance the previous year etc etc. It actually begins to promote itself. That's what I mean by goodwill. The larger pool community recognises it and accepts the competitions place in the pool calendar and other pool promoters don't use that weekend for their events.

This new competition won't have that history. It won't have an established weekend to be held on and given that London couldn't find a free weekend for another competition I wish you guys luck in finding one for an Open.

The point is that you had a weekend set from previous years Croydon Opens which was the second weekend in February (Europeans weekend). It's much easier to find a free weekend for a Closed Event than it is for an Open.

An enjoyable day and a well run comp.

All we really well considering there was a lot of plate entries as well.

Well done to all who run the comp, nice to have just croydon players so everyone had a chance of winning!

Who won the plate comp?

Agree with the sharks comments, the tables have gone down hill since hannah has left!

For what it's worth - I'm pleased people enjoyed the day - I'm not trying to pick apart what Kyle and Paul did do. I'm sure they put a lot of effort into running the top table. It's hard work particularly if you are doing it with someone who goes a long way in the competition and isn't around to help so much.

It's what they didn't do I have issue with.

i to found the day a very enjoyble one ,cinging so many faces u know and play against during the season,i thuoght the day was very very well run all tables being used all the time and hardly any waiting time between games, its a great idea to allow just croydon players it really does give the lower leauge players a shot to play the higher leauge boys ,instead of the really big boys showing up and getting a easy pay day,i think the numbers will go up next year without doudt, really well run and a friendly day which a open does not always have
