The wait is over and the first week in division one is upon us. Here is how I see it panning out
Hot Shots V Unpredictables
A fascinating first fixture with two sides who are reported to have depleted line ups if we are to believe what we read. I think this one will come down to the team with the strongest spirit. To have both lost key players the key here will be a belief from the Unpredictables that they can still compete (although enhanced with the signing of Ian David from the Warbank) with the big guns and the Hot Shots that they are still a great side with a depleted line up. They will cancel each other out - 5-5
The Warbank V Eagles
For a side that was relegated from a much weaker Summer league the last fixture you want in your first winter game is a side that have been quoted already as having a side twice as good as anyone else. Add to that the loss of a key player and it hard to see the Warbank competing with one of the only sides who have actually improved their side this year. 2-8 Eagles
Hurricanes (replacement) V Propeller
Is this game even going ahead. doesn't look like it so this replacement team will be in action. Based on the fact I know nothing about them I will go for 1-9 Propeller
Jolly A V Forum A
I think this one will be close, the Forum boys have been here and done it before in the top flight and have a had a good run of form in cups and the doubles comp in recent times. The Jolly survived in style last time around and it will come down to the hunger for another season of survival in division one. Home advantage is massive for the Jolly but I am still going to plump for a 4-6 Forum A victory.
CueMasters V Eden
A mouth watering tie first up. The Eden will be massively boosted with the return of original Eden boy Scott who is a great player and the motivation of Truey as Captain. Dom D'souza is also a good player in Div one and has been there and done it before. On the Cuesmasters side they have made some great signings who may need a little time to bed themselves in. Lets hope not. I predict a 6-4 Cuemasters win with quite a few Cuemasters players watching from the sidelines.
Imperials V Patriots
The Imps will see this as a massive first fixture against a side who is looking to capture 2nd place and above this season with some handy signings. patriots are another side who are stronger this year so home advantage and the surprise factor will need to be used to good effect to avoid a beating first up. 3-7 Patriots win.
Hotshots 6-4 the unpredictables
Pot luck 1-9 the prop
Riley Cuemasters 5-5 Farley eden
Warbank 3-7 The Eagles
Jolly 6-4 The Forum
The Imps 3-7 The Patriots
Hot Shots v Unpredictables
On home turf, even with a much talked about depleted side, Hot Shots will start the favourites for this match. Knocky or no Knocky that is the question? Unpreds have started the last two winter league campaigns awfully and tonight I can the Hot Shots coming out flying and will run out 7-3 winners.
Pot Luck v Propeller
Think Truey summed it up last week when we played Pot Luck. Lets hope they don't get too despondant and will see out the season as nobody wants to see the silliness of end of season average scores. Prop shouldn't have to break into a gary sweatTENHAM let alone drop a frame.
Rileys Cuemasters v Farley Eden
Eden will be looking for an explosive start tonight. Last few seasons the league form has been dire, and time to put that record straight. The resigning of Tony Venus after a 3 year lay-off is another boost for the Eden, though I think he is not due back until next week. Cuemasters are stronger than last season and both sides know each others games inside and out so expect a close battle. 6-4 Eden.
Warbank v Eagles
A stronger Eagles, and all ready most have given up on a title challenge. Lot of pool to be played and the Ego's have too much experience to listen to all the talk of a 15th title and repeating a third treble. Warbank do have the home advantage, and must put to the back of their minds a disappointing summer campaign and just get stuck in. I'll predict an Eagles win (6-4) in the final frame.
Jolly A v Forum A
Pre-season prediction the Jolly will break into the top 6, and this is the type of match they must win with the home advantage in their favour. Forum will be up for this match and last seasons Div 2 & Knockout Cup champions are going to be a handful for most sides. Home advantage to tell and a slightly stronger team in depth at the Jolly. 6-4 home win.
Imperials v Patriots
Tonight could set in stone how the Imps deal with Div 1, and chances are fewer in Div 1. Imps will need to take them against a new look and stronger Patriots team widely tipped as the Eagles main threat. We'll see after tonight how keen the Patriots are to impress. Fear it is going to be damage limitation for the Imps. 8-2 Patriots win.
