It is with great sadness that I am announcing the demise / end of this team.

As far as I am aware, our place in Div 1 has been taken by a newly formed team, who have been sitting on a reserve list for the last couple of weeks. I'm guessing this was a lot easier than shuffling teams around, and having to re-write fixture lists and match cards.

I know nothing more about the team itself, although I'm sure the Power will be able to say a little more after Tuesday (I believe The Eden will now be playing them in the league cup!).

Many thanks for all the offers that have been made to Peter and myself. We hope to decide on our new team over this weekend.

Sorry to hear that.

One thing that does strike me there though is that the new team has gone straight in at D1. If it is too late to shuffle the divisions then surely it is too late to enter a team.

Seems a huge piss-take and I would be really upset if I was still playing for the Imperials for example- they've just done really well and busted a nut to come all the way through the divisions and just as they achieve this goal that they've worked on for at least 5 years a new team turns up, hands their entry in late and goes straight in at D1.

I doubt there will be many teams describing this as fair.

I bet there will be a lot of teams in D5 not handing in their entry until REALLY late next season- who needs to win, just don't enter on time and go straight in at the top!

lame

Good luck finding a new team Teach thumb

Well if the new team isn't strong then it benefits the Imperials... As a team who has been backed to go straight back down it means they have a better chance of staying in the division... I personal don't think its that unfair, if the team are that strong then it adds value to division 1, if not they will find that losing every week sucks!

Forgot to say... Shame to see the team go... It was always a challenge playing them...

I hope the players can find homes as they were very solid and the league would be weaker without them...

Massive shame that things could not be worked out, Teach and Pete are very good and solid players, hopefully they can sort something out. There are many great teams out there in all divisions, I am sure these guys will be snapped up asap!

I believe this team have been formed for a short while, but as every division is full, they would have been in a division on their own. So they were waiting in reserve. I don't know what happens if they survive. Do they keep their place in Div 1 or are they just keeping it warm???

You make some valid points Spence, and under normal circumstances, I'd side with you and cry foul play, but if, as Teach suggests, that they are on a waiting list, and that all the divisions are already full, then you're left with two realistic options, as it's far too late in the day to shuffle teams / divisions.

The first is to not allow them to play.
The team in question "Team X" therefore don't play at all this season. The league loses revenue, and probably loses that teams interest of competing in the future.
The first division has a BYE in it. No-one likes Byes.... we all wanna play pool.

The second is to say to them "You can play..... but you're in div. 1, choice is yours"
For me it's a no brainer given the time scale, the more teams the merrier.
Save the politics for the AGM, just get Team X in the league and involved.

Sorry to see the Hounds go, they were great value last Winter.

There are many teams in this league that will feel hard done by over this. they play in this league for years
trying to win promotion and then a new team just walk strait into the top division. A very bad move by the
league and a very bad precedent to set by them.

Spud has hit the nail on the head, in my opinion. The fixtures have already had to be changed for some divisions and league cup groups and it was too late to change again. The league has I believe been losing a few teams in recent seasons, so to get it back up to 60 is encouraging.

For the record and to stop any further whinging, I have spent months putting this winter league together and I have read certain comments about teams being in the league for many years and a team is just going to jump straight into Div.1. There is not enough time to re-vamp the whole league to accomodate shuffle-ups and re-do all cards. In the 30 odd years that this league has been running there has never been a bye in Division 1 and there will not be one on my watch. The Hurricanes dropped the bombshell that they were folding only 2 days ago and with the league starting on Tuesday it was lucky to have a reserve team to call upon. What will happen is that they will fill this div 1 spot for this season but will become a New Team from next year even if they are relegated. Three up and down will still apply after the season has finished next May and a shuffle up will apply for the 4th team to be promoted from div 4 to div 5 to accomodate this new team dropping down to a lower division.

I trust that this now settles the matter and if any further queries need being raised then contact me direct and do not leave a post on here.

Why, you even need to make one of your rare appearences on her to explain that... Is beyond belief...

Big shame to see another established Div 1 side take the same route as the Coney did a few seasons ago. Bloodhounds came through two sick relegation battles in recent seasons, so disappointing to see them go this way.

As for the new side, there will be plenty who are not fans of this process and I think there are valid arguments in favour and those who are not. With a few days left to break off, I can see the logic of it and I think Mark is spot on in his judgement on this one.

Thanks for your reply Mark.

If they are going straight back as a new team for next season then I can't argue with that and agree that making the numbers up is a good thing.

Many thanks for the offers that have come our way!

Just to let people know that Peter and I have both now signed with Gary for the Prop!
We are certainly not the best players in the world, but we hope to add some strength in depth to their squad. It also means that we can keep our places in the singles and doubles comps! Smile
