Elmer cuemasters 5-6 Bromley Cuemasters

hugely enjoyable match last night down at suzys which ebbed and flowed right to the finish! a mixture of some solid pool from the elmer and a bit of bad run of the balls meant we was always behind and at 3-5 down things looked grim! but a great fightback when defeat looked inevitable squared the match up a 5-5, and then in a tense decider in which again we seemed destined to lose captain wates took his chance well when it all looked over for us. credit to the elmer tho who played very well and if they keep the team together they will soon be up there in the 1st division without a doubt! as for us we stuck at it and managed to claim the spoils in a match no one deserved to lose! so all we can say to the elmer boys is your good! in fact your very good! but as long as we play in your pub your always be number 2!Wink

Congratulations to Cuemasters on winning the dress rehearsal. Wink

Across town at the Farley and in the main event - there was a Cup Final shocker...

We're not going to go overboard about winning a first round losers competition, in fact we probably wouldn't have bothered playing if the Elmer hadn't also been victims of an early exit. This was just a bit of local rivalry and revenge for a defeat last year. We may be meeting again in the next stage of the League Cup. It's a friendly rivalry, most of us play in the same team in the summer (though not sure whether that will be happening this year), but we know that Mr Cook would have given it large if they'd won.

Mmmm, reminds me of the Eden & Coney days. We were the best team then in the Elmer Tavern.

Aahh, the good old days! Only 2 of us left in the league these days though and one of us started life as an Eden benchwarmer. Good night last night though and Elmer took it very well in defeat having been on the verge of victory for most of the match. Well done Wates for a quality finish under pressure at the end - nearly didn't post that after your 'stopwatch brigade' comment ha ha!!

Their has been a number of so called lesser teams winning the k/o cup, and the Forum join this list. It was certainly not a result that I expected.

I thought with the change of format going up in frame distance this would play into the hands of the bigger hitters.

Obviously not, well play to Forum, excellant achievement.

6-5 final result to Forum A, with ex-Propeller Trevor Herbert dishing off Morray Dolan's dry break. The Forum have some real experience in their line up these days with the likes of John 'Bomber' Bayliss, Paul Southwell and Tony Clarke. Forum are flying high in Div 2 and will no doubt gain promotion this season. Having said that, the Prop have assembled a formidable line up this season and before even a ball was hit this season most felt they could well repeat the Eagles treble of recent seasons. Whatever way you summarise last night - this will still have to go down as one of all time Cup shocks.

That's now two Knockout Cup winners in the last 3 seasons coming from outside Div 1 - the romance of the Cup.

I think even Berty would agree, that despite all the bravado that went on before and then after our matches - it was in the main all hyped up bullshit from both teams. Both teams respected oneanother but were just passionate about winning and as a result on a couple of occasions during our matches things occured which as a result did strain the relationship between the teams. They no doubt lost as much sleep over that as we did.
