Thats so true, not at all like the Farley, who's 3 tables have ample playing room from each other & ample room & seating for the 6 teams that may be playing there on the same night.
As for the fighting week in week out at Rileys, i just don't know if i can take it anymore, Luckily we were playing away last night, so we missed it..........................Then again, we must have been playing away every other night there has been a fight there also, cos i have never seen one.
I would rather be playing golf |

I am suspecting that a formal apology from the Eagles heirarchy will close the matter to the Farley Eden's satisfaction. |

So it is rileys fault that people decide to kick off over a game of pool? My guess is no does it matter how many teams play from a venue again i think no? this is ridiculous now people need to realise a game is a game. If you have a problem with my venue then come to me if you have a problem with the people who use the venue then contact them. |

The 'Theatre of Dreams' is a standing only venue. I tell you what, we'll roll out some deckchairs next time you pop down and see us Grandad. |

Thats okay Tony, I understand. Words and sensible reasoning within the inner walls of your side, must, at a time like this, be very pressing for you.
Thanks for the apology though. I am going to frame it. Just like Francois Tertullien did with the 1996/97 Ranking sheet, 10 weeks into the season when he was top.

The Eagles incident, wasn't over a game of pool.
In my opinion, it should be sorted between the players, and laid to rest. I hate seeing good mates fall out!!!!

Suggesting that the venue is to blame for altercatons between teams is complete nonsense and what happened on Tuesday could have happened anywhere. Rileys is an excellent venue, the tables are in good condition and the club has done a lot to promote pool in Croydon. The tables that are used for matches are now more spread out and that has solved the problem of overcrowding. Personally I think it is better at Rileys when there are several games at once because there is more atmosphere. I also like playing at the Farley but as Brooker says when there are 3 games on it is too claustrophobic. |

On the matter of tables though I hope they get rid of the first 4 and replace them with the same supreme tables that are in the rest of the club.

i seem to have opened a can of worms with my comments so let me clairify for you all.
I am not saying that rileys is a bad venue, only that when there are so many matches with so many people in such a small space, people are bound to impinge on others areas and games. I agree that now that the tables are more spread out it is better but still too many games for the location to be an enjoyable rather than just an over busy location.
I know it must be a conflict of interest for rileys as they want as much money through the place as poss which is fair as it is a business not a charity. I would say there is space including seating for about a quarter of the people there on tues. I stood up from about 6:30 till 12:15 which is not good.
Regarding the comments made about the tables being good i would disagree as some are good and others are awful. I played a singles match against Paul Richards from the patriots on tuesday and the table caused 2 games to be won/lost by the wrong player. In the final frame the white ball actually lodged itself in a hole in the cloth where the top of the rack goes. Also some of the pockets need addressing as the balls seem to bounce out even at medium pace.
Regarding some people talking about the Farley, who mentioned the farley? i didnt ! You have a max of 6 teams at the farley and the pool area accommodates most people most weeks, dont forget the pub has seating for around 60-80 people.
Regarding the fighting issues, i dont care if people want to fight outside but when its 3 foot from your table and your trying to play a match then its a different matter.
feel free to wax lyrical on the above as im sure you guys will but these are only my "opinions" !
Oh and thx tony for the apology, much obliged but i would say that if people are going to get that drunk that they want to fight everybody that they should be discouraged from driving home! |

I can't help myself I have to pass comment on this!
Let me get this straight - The Farley has room for 60 - 80 people and Rileys is too cramped with standing room only? Okay...
And as for the tables - Rileys has great tables, with SIXTEEN English tables you are bound to get the odd one with a hole in the cloth, but for the most part they are fine - miles better than any pub table I've played on - especially our venue! Blaming the table for a result is weak.
If it wasn't for Rileys the league would be half the size it is now, they give good service, awesomewicked food, great tables and even manage it at fair prices. Surely it's better than developing piles from sitting on the stairs in front of the Ladies toilet - while wearing sunglasses to counteract the Farley decor?

Regarding food I honestly think of the behaviour of the teams are that they havent had a feed in weeks. In our three home games I am yet to be told that food was available, and when I went up this week their was 1 sandwich and half a spoon full of chilli.
Then you see people walking around with virtually a silver salver of the stuff.
No criticism of the food by the way, just how its distributed in such a free for all manner. I do however realise the staff cant be expected to monitor everything and count out onion ring alocation between teams.
Never a complaint about the tables. Supremes roll after a while, I am sure if you asked for it to be levelled it would be asap.

emdee - i won my singles so "blaming the table for a result is weak" is hardly the case, my opponent suffered much more than i did.
and lets just set the record straight - i am not saying rileys is not a good venue just not ideal when it is so busy etc. |
