We have heard all this before Dave and you know what I have to say I agree with you we have won nothing we have consistently underachieved against the big boys not arguing that point but when you put yourself up there for a fall it makes you look ridiculous when it happens. This victory felt like Karma personified for past comments made. |

Bottom line is the Coney are not as good as the top four teams in the league and never will be. No delusions of grandeur here. But for the odd bit of banter, we all knew we would never win a cup. (To illustrate this point we barely got a line up wanting to play the knockout cup and hardly ever a full team for the league cup) We lost to the Eagles in the semi of league cup once. They obliterated us. Why? They are all much much better pool players. Simple really.
Our first goal was to enjoy the game and have a supportive spirit. You see so many teams blaming their own players after they lose and holding post frame reprimands with players. Fuck that.
Our second was to get into the first division. We did that (I seem to remember) in the shortest time possible whilst resisting offers to merge with other teams, so basically by and large the same bunch of players. We did this despite being average players (I believe) becasue we stuck to goal one.
All this crap about us not winning stuff by Alex et al, I see as a huge compliment. To even be metioned in the same sentence as winning trophys shows how far a mediocre bunch of pool players have come.
Through the years we got on with pretty much every team we played with one obvious exception (although most of the team are top blokes, paradoxically that particularly team collective portrays a slightly different image).
When we got to the first division our new goal was to stay there (finishing as high up as we could) and finish above the team that took such a dislike to us (and in fairness at times brought out the worst in us). We finished above them two years running and even if we do not do the same this year we hold the aggregate advantage in this sense. We are 3-3 in head to heads with a better frame difference and have won 3 of the last 4.
That will do for me.
Apologies for the self-indulgent crap

Loving your work James could not have put it better myself.
In a sense the Eden made the highlight of our season beating them and finishing off better than them which we have done.
Mission accomplished |

I've just noticed that Fieldsy 'location' says "The Mighty Eden . . Away Team"
Have the Eden signed so many of Mark Bannister's players that they can adopt a 'Jose Style' rotation system?*
* that was a joke btw

It is just a shame that all the new players will only be playing for a half a season before finding new teams as the Eden are folding remember |

Does anyone know if there is a missing persons column in the local paper? This site is far too quiet without the sportsman of year spouting off. Anyway, Berty i'm soooo glad you finally achieved payback.
Also i want to praise Mr Truan on his kind words and accepting the loss in a dignified manner.
Do we get to keep the Ashes trophy now? and are we running a book on how long it will be before King Gob is back? |
