Nice to see you are all so much in favour of democracy lol

I would imagine that most people/teams outside of the 1st division (not all) & even a few teams in the 1st division just come out on Tuesdays to have a drink, play some pool & just have a bit of fun & not take it all too seriously.

I personally wouldn't have wanted 15 frames, but would have in no way complained if it had been voted in. I struggle to get home from work, eat, shower & change & get out again to pool by 8.15 instead of 8.30 which was bought in when we moved to 10/11 frames & think the night finishes late enough already considering most people have to work again the next day.

Other people who are high class competitive players in our league have already stated other reasons such as the better teams getting bored winning 14-1, 13-2 every week & upset results less likely over a longer distance as reasons for not wanting to move to 15 frames.

I think the trouble with this site at the moment is it is dominated by a few regular users who share much the same opinion about pool & therefore tends to create a false indication of what most people in the league really want, so far there are only 3 people from only two teams annoyed at this outcome.

Thats why there is an AGM & all teams get to vote so the whole leagues opinion is taken into consideration.

If the majority rules, then the majority are happy & therefore probably stops the league from fading further rather than vice versa.

I think we should take it down to 2 sets of 3 games, that way everyone in our team gets 2 games as we turn up with 3 players most of the time Grin

Reading this thread just like to offer an "alternative" view. Not everyone wants 15 frames per night. 11 is quite enough for some of us, including with the slightly earlier 8.15pm start time. There's more to life than pool for some of us, and cannot agree with your assessment that this has anything to do with the shrinking league.

Had it gone the other way I would have had to tell my secretary I can only play the first two segments (if chosen) as I get home late enough as is - it would be that or quit altogether.

It called moving with the times what cracks me up is how every 1 is knocking it without trying it..... Dunno about any other teams but 11 frames can cause abit of an atmosphere coz in sum cases there is arguments and bad feelings wen a player in a team gets three frames and every 1 else gets 2. All I purpose is other leagues do 15 frames and it more enjoyable/fair in a nut shell you come out on a tues to play pool so play it other leagues do it and it works people r to scared to change jacko nailed it for me wen he spoke about the world rules how hard it was to get it here now it's here every 1 loves it! An extra 4 frames wow! Pool players proper players cud do 4 frames in no time. I don't mind jus proposing this jus for div 1? Is there any objections from DIV 1 players?

Yeah i would object, for reasons stated above in earlier post, but if the majority wanted it then our team would go with it.

Also it's not just about the extra time to play the games, Andy Esgrove & Mark Eldridge were both against 15 frames, are they not "proper pool players" there are other reasons why people are against it other than the extra time.

No one is knocking your argument & you make good valid points, it's just that not everyone shares the same opinion & so we vote & get a result based on everyones views.

As for world rules, i was always in favour of them & like you with this 15 frame thing was annoyed when it took so long to bring in, but having said that i think it definitely was a factor in the league getting smaller in the long run as getting new players who do not already play in a league playing world rules is very difficult & i think this is a factor in the reduction of teams over the last couple of years, that's just my opinion.

I think if you go against what the majority of the league vote for, then surely this would add to the reduction of teams further as you would be doing something most people have said they don't want.

Should have been a proposal for 12 if not 15.

11 frames which means 6 - 5 and 12 frames is 6 - 6, now 6 - 6 is a much better result cos teams can fight for a draw if score is 6 - 5 with 1 game remaning, as for people moaning about work, why are we having first up 11 games that finishes at past midnight. When I was playing in SLKPA league 15 games finishes before 11pm without a stopwatch so at least fight for 12 frames and that is one more extra it's not gonna kill us! People can just play their games and leave after it to head home for work, just remember its only once a week that we're gonna play. Give 12 frames a chance in summer league 2013 if success transfer over to winter.

When we had 10 frames a lot people moaned about playing all night & not getting a winner from the match, which just goes to show you can't please everyone, as you seem to think an even number of frames & a possible draw is better.

Thats why you vote & please the majority.

We went from 7 frames to 10, then 10 to 11 & we also voted in world rules, so as a league we obviously can vote for changes if most people want them. 13 frames got voted against this time, try again next time & see what happens, as for now it appears it's staying at 11 frames, so not much point arguing about it.

I guess this just comes down to one simple question , if we go to 15 frames will it or won't it encourage more teams to join the league? or at the very least will it help keep the teams we have? And yes that was 2 questions Wink

who says it's going backwards?

as i said before, the less frames, the more pressure and the more chance of lesser teams winning....
that's a good thing imo

why should the league format change so a team mate can get more frames? get on the practice table, get better and earn your 2/3 frames

i've played in a 15 frame league and have played in the croydon league for 20 years and have seen a number of positive changes. makes me laugh how players who have been there 5 mins start complaining about it!

what brooker says is right (except him having a shower before games, i can't believe that)

tuesday night pool is about a night out as well as pool

if you want more frames, play in other comps as well!

changing the number of frames won't change the number of teams.

it's pubs/venues closing down which is the problem and that isn't helped when teams turn up and share a bottle of coke between the team and don't put any money behind the bar!

if it ain't broke, don't try and fix it!

I drink coke because I drive, I like to make sure my team and my gf get to and from the pub safely so what's your f. . .ing problem? Its alright when shaggy is pissed up at Suzys and I drive him home cos he can't get there. So that's why I don't drink. If that's a problem talk to someone that wants to listen to your sh*t
I will ruin your Christmas

I've had a long think about the 15 frame thing and i play them both.
Tbh I am gutted we r moving the league to 11 frames. It should IMO remain 10 !
I like that we only have a max of 2 frames coz it makes people melt a lot more but knowing they have 2 more games coming up , it almost relaxes players and so taking the pressure off. 10 frames gives more upsets and makes it more exciting !
Ps if it goes 15 frames the eagles would b out of sight by Xmas!

There's a bit of misinformation going on in this thread.

First of all, at the AGM there was no proposal put forward about the number of frames per game to be played this winter. If people want this issue to be raised they should ask their secretary to put forward a proposal so that we can vote on it. They should also ask their secretary to turn up rather than send apologies if they want this sorted out.

Secondly, the 11 games rule was introduced as a 'trial' for the summer. As this stemmed from a proposal at the previous AGM we had a chance to vote to keep this, or to go back to 10. There was no other option, other than to vote upon bonus points for a 'win', which was declined.

Thirdly, 15 games doesn't work for lower division teams. The quality is sufficiently low to make dish&break a rarity and matches finish late enough as is.

So, I'd suggest that if people want a proposal to go to 15, that this should be restricted to the top division, with 13 in 2nd div, 11 in 3rd div, and 9 in 4th div (7 in 5th if we get back to that many teams again)

Alternatively, if 15 games were to be introduced across the divisions, I'd suggest a mirrored proposal that permits the hosting venue, or either of the team secretaries to call a halt (at their discretion, if everyone happy to carry on playing, then no problem) to any match at 11:15 pm (completing the current frame) if not completed, with any remaining games being decided by coin toss. A coin toss could, alternatively, be brought in to decide any frame at 15 minutes, preventing individual frames going on longer than this.

We had one frame last 40 minutes in one match this summer, and we finished that match well gone midnight, so had it been 15 it could have easily gone beyond 1 a.m. which would be an unfair imposition upon everyone involved.

am i disrespecting the better halfs? no....

obviously i touched a nerve

wetter halfs is just a bit of friendly banter, we all have nick names for teams, the eagles get called the egos.... i just find it all funny

i didn't literally mean 5 minutes, 3 or 4 seasons compared to my 20 and others that have put in 25+ like hughie, nutman, brooker, shaggy etc is a short time to start complaining imo

as for drinking, of course i don't support drink driving, but some times i've seen teams not put any money behind the bar and that's what they need to survive.
i used to get free tables at suzy q's, would drive there and made sure i'd buy drinks otherwise i'd feel guilty

as for being jealous, let me see now, 2 trebles, 10 winter league titles, 7 league cups, 4 KO cups not to mention 2 summer league ko cups including a 11-1 smashing of a team i can't remember the name of...

i'll let you answer that one...!
