Two great matches played this evening at Frames with Peter Dewsbury & Wayne Thomas defeating Metin Tomris & Sean Kelly by 3-2 and Eddie & Aaron Taylor defeating Danny Kelliher & Steve Krishnan by 5-4 ............. Should be a good final on March 23rd.

Congrats to the winners.

Can I ask why one match was best of 5 and the other best of 9?:?:

The default distance is best of 5..... On agreement of both parties players agree to extend matches. If they dont its 5.
I am sure its not in the rules, but its not affecting anybody else, and especially that its now held in a multi table venue rather than just a pub.

I personally feel the distances for latter stages are very low. For example the Reigate League is first to about 9 or 10 for the final stages.

Agree with you Shaggles. Just looks odd to have one semi significantly longer than the other hence the question.

hard to say they would've been through if the distance was shorter, it's the winning frame that's the hard one to win

going 3-1 up against the likes of metin very different to winning 3-1 against him

for me the match distance is too short, you can travel 40 min getting to somewhere and a dry break be your only shot if your playing a capable player!

i can see the popularity of the short distance as it always throws in a few shock or two and does give the lower players a chance of some glory

i will always try to extend the distance, it does give the better player an advantage but i do think the competition has been created this way so it should be stuck to and keep the frame distance the same for all involved

they did a divisional singles not so long ago, best of 9's which was good as the best player will normally win that

I know that feeling Andy. I played Gary Martin in this season's single...
Frame 1 - I dry break, he dishes
Frame 2 - He break dishes
Frame 3 - I dry break, he dishes

3-0 and over in 5 minutes flat! Quality player and top bloke though, so no complaints from me. I obviously just need to scrub up on my breaks lol!
