Last nights game was treated with absolutely no respect from the opponents of Suzy's Floozies. They were walking between player and table, as the player was about to take their shot. Not only that but they ( Suzy's opponents) continually give thier table room while standing almost on top of ours. All right they are playing in the 5th Division, but surely a bit of etiquette is called for, whatever standard you play.

i noticed the imps ref asking a few times for them to step out of the way just so a player could get to the table.

Noise, & people moving around between tables is part and parcel of playing at a multi populated venue with tables crammed on top of each other, though its more evident on a match night at Suzy's.

You either block it out, or get up from your shot and chalk up.

And its not just the travelling teams who are the culprits at Suzy's.

It was Ruskin House Club were the guilty team. Come on guys and girls, lets put a little thought into where you are walking during a match. Or indeed, any time when someone is playing.

however you have to forgive Ruskin house for their fashion sense the t shirt with the horse on was one of the funniest things I have seen in ages.

I wasn?t aware that there was a problem for the Imps as noone brought it to my attention on Tuesday. If you had I would have had a polite word with our opponents on your behalf.

We chose the table we play on mainly because it has the best seating and since there were only 3 of us there most of the time I can?t explain why our opponents seemed to get in your way.

I have had problems with the attitude of one of their players but that?s mainly because each time we play he likes to inform me midway through the frame of a new rule he?s made up to try and rattle me. Hasn?t worked yet sorry :D

It might be an idea to speak with Suzy's captain about any ongoing 'issues' concerning visitor etiquette in Suzy's Floozies little corner.

Every time I've ever had the pleasure of visiting Suzy's I've witnessed some ill-tempered disrespectful comment towards members of the visiting team from the teams playing on adjacent tables.

There's no need for it.

On the last occasion we were there, we were saying our goodbyes and were subjected to some fairly provocative comments about getting in the way of people who had a god-given right to the bit of limited floor space that was being occupied by the departing team.

Visiting Rileys is a fairly unpleasant experience in it's own right, without having neighbouring teams act as though they have a superior right to the space between the tables.

Respect is something that has to be earned. If the neighbouring teams to Floozies table showed a little more patience, tolerance and respect for the visitors to Rileys in what is an extremely cramped little corner, then that sort of respectful behaviour would deserve some sort of reciprocation.

Sarky 'bullying' type comments are just going to get people's backs up.

I think you will find that what will get peoples backs up is slagging off Rileys when they provide the best tables, food and service in the league.

Maybe if you don't get in people's :censored: way they wont be "rude".

"There's no need for it."

Okay I'm done.

I have been asked to make a point of asking all visiting teams to stay away from the Imps table.

To be honest I'm going to feel uncomfortable about doing it but I will do so. Please don't shoot the messenger!

Imps are just going to have to accept that they choose to play at a busy venue and yes I know they have been there longer than most other teams.

I don't know how the prop and sas maintain their concentration levels with an almost constant stream of people walking past their tables.

To answer your comments miq. First we do accept that Rileys is busy, its THE place to play pool, so will be busy, that?s not the problem. We have been there longer than anyone, but I fail to see the relevance of that comment. As for the constant stream of people walking past the tables, again this is not the problem. As I have said in the original post, the problem lies where Suzie?s opponents encroach on our table and the worst thing is not walking past the table, which can be done with a minimal amount of distraction, by walking around the Props table as they are generally away when we are at home, its when the ignorant walk in between a player that is lining up a shot and the table.
Most players would not even walk past a player who is down on a shot if he was in line of sight until he had played the shot. Not so with The Ruskin House.

Who has asked you to do this?

I suggest that EVERY team in Rileys ask all teams who play within a 10 foot radius of their table to do the same then. Oh, and also not to even look in the direction of another table, or points should be deducted from that specific teams total.

Absolutely f*cking ridiculous.

You can't try to penalise a particular team for ignorant people. Most people who play pool to a certain standard have the etiquette that they would expect in return, but it's not for any team to ask their away team to stay away from a particular table. The Pond Q's table is closer to the Floozies table and they would get more people disrupting their game from encroaching their space than anyone.

And having played for the Goodfellas and the Floozies, I've been in a position where I've had to ask the Imperials opponents AND players from the Imps to move when taking a shot - it's part of the night when playing at a heavily populated venue, or any venue with more than one table with not a lot of room between them.

I've played at worse. MUCH worse.

I don?t feel as if we?re being singled out. It?s our opponents that are!! Donna is right that we often have to ask people from the Pond to move so we can play a shot but it?s part and parcel of playing on adjacent tables and I certainly hadn?t given it a second?s thought until now.

I think the simple fact is that we?re in Division 5 where people don?t take pool as seriously as they do in higher divisions and behave accordingly. If I only played once a week as an excuse to go out for a beer, I?d probably be less aware of ?table etiquette? and the dos and don?ts of playing in a multi table venue. Let?s not forget each away team visits just the once in a season and I?m sure Rileys would like them to be made to feel welcome so they visit more often!!

With 16, or whatever number of tables there is now at Rileys, has it not crossed anyone's minds to spread the home matches out instead of playing on top of each other?

Posted by Sass on 26-09-2008 16:52

That had crossed my mind but to be honest I think you'd be hard pushed to find a team that wants to give up the table they are used to playing on. We certainly don't.
