I've had this conversation with someone (to protect his anonymity we'll call him
Steve Field) a couple of times now and we have decided to agree to disagree on the matter but it's now time to hear your thoughts:
Should two people from different teams be allowed to pair up in the league doubles competiton?
Answers on a postcard . .

Apparently, I've given the wrong answer. My husband says 'That's bollocks' and refuses to elaborate. . . :elol:
Why shouldn't you be able to choose your partner? You could have a good mate playing for another team that you'd want to play alongside.
I don't see a negative side to allowing players the opportunity to partnering whoever they wish.

It's one of the perks that come with playing for a decent team . .
. . not only that but it would then have all manner of people begging to play with the good players resulting in having to hold trials and all sorts!

Trials . . You cock!
Do you hold trials within your team to see who goes with who? No. You simply decide or ask amongst your team if anyone wants to partner you. It'd be the same.
Strangely enough, I can't actually remember ever playing in a League apart from Croydon that has the ruling that your Doubles partner must be of the same team as you. . .

No . . Kyle and I pair up because we run the show and leave the rest to do their thing . . Last season they drew straws . .

That's quite noble of you, I must admit.
After seeing the pair of you play today, it's nice to leave all the good players in your team chance to pair up and actually have a chance of winning something.
You're not even the best players in your respective houses.

Would there be an issue about where the home or away venue would be if you had a pairing from two completely different places...

Good point Paul, although I guess Mr Halsey could make the call as to who's venue from the 'home' team the match would be played at. Then alternate if that pairing gets picked as home team again.
Simply put the player from the venue it's to be played at as the first name in that pairing.

If it ain't broken, don't fix it!
I don't see any issues with the way it's currently set up.
Besides, I'd end up having to partner with the missus!

It's just complicating things for the sake of it IMO . .
I'm all for change but only if there is a specific purpose to it . .
World Rules - We're all playing the currently EPA recognised ruleset
New Match Format - More frames & Less teams turning up short
Scotch Doubles - Much more entertaining format and prevents the 'puppet' situation
Doubles Pairings from Different Teams - Rubbish

I think doubles pairings from different teams is all good. Dont see a problem. Is it sponsored by Rileys? Play all the games at Purley Way. There is enough tables!

No wonder you're up for changing Doubles partners, yours is rubbish!
That reminds me... don't forget we've got a doubles match tonight.

This was only a hypothetical question from what I understand - though there is nothing stopping anyone from putting it in as a proposal.
They either get in if Secretaries think it a good thing or they don't if they dont!
Personally I don't like doubles, but scotch doubles is fun!
