The prospect of playing against our boyhood heroes is very exciting. I can't believe that the draw has been so kind to us !! How disappointing for Scott to have to visit the Surrey Cricketers again. I know that it is one of his very most favourite venues !! :lol:

Sorry Pat, but I think you'll find as seasoned and experienced Div 1 material, the Eden do not share your passion for Plate fixtures.
The opponent means nothing to us and the match will serve to us as a bit of extra table time and practice though I very much doubt my team will be assed to play. I'll speak to them next week.....

Good news for you Pat, we've decided to give our over 65's 'B' side a run out. We'll only have 4 players but they look forward to the challenge....
Being a newly promoted winter division 1 outfit, I'm sure it will be a breeze....

Which roughly translated means;
'We got turned over by a Div 4 set-up last year, so instead of running the risk of a second humiliation in as many seasons, we'll put out a rubbish team, so we're in a no-lose situation. If we get beat, we've already said it's a weak team, but if we win, we can bleat on about how rubbish they must be. Then I can continue in my quest of conquering the world . . Mwah ha ha haaaaaaaaaa.'

Alex,how come you're so short of players ? Can't you con any more dukes into playing with your queens ? Are yor legendary persuasive powers in terminal decline ? I think that a move from Southend to Thornton Heath is required, so that you can maintain more regular contact with your transfer targets ! Once a week plainly isn't adequate !! :lol:

Its the Plate. Motivation goes into freefall....
Ah bless, I didn't know beating the Eden last season is the Goodfella's only achievement worth re-mentioning to date. Other than, of course, coming ''2nd'' in Division 4. And being plainly gay by playing with a ball that has red spots on it....

Alex,just to confirm my earlier telephone call : I am afraid that we are unable to field a team to challenge your division 4 outfit next Monday. I have tried to motivate my team into giving your bunch of reprobates the sound thrashing which they so richly deserve. Unfortunately,my pleas have fallen on deaf ears. The general concensus seems to be that we cannot get too excited about playing a team from a much lower division. Please accept my heartfelt apology. May I take this opportunity to offer my very best wishes to you and your team in all your exploits during the current season !!

That is a pity young Pat - I was really looking forward to a late night against your band of merry men
i guess we will have to wait until the Winter league & then we can seperate the men from the boys :judge:
We had actually managed to get a team out only for you guys to bottle it - disappointing but totally understandable :razz:

David,please don't misconstrue our no-show as anything to do with intrepidity. Should any of your negative vibes transfer to our team, there might be a repetition in the winter season. I wouldn't like to even contemplate that !! Bearing in mind all the speculation over your team's continued participation in the league,it might be our last chance to re-affirm the current status quo !!

Thanks Pat, when we win the Plate, we'll dedicate it to you.
Shame, as there is no need to bleat on about what a weak team we were going to field, or bleat on about the no win - no lose situation, or bleat on about how brilliantly we would have dismantled you, or bleat on for the sake of bleating on and on and on etc etc......
Guess we can wait until next winter season to take your bunch of pretty boys to pool school....:winking:
