Thread subject: CroydonPool.com - The CDPL Online Community :: Hot Shots No More?

:gossip I heard on relatively good authority that the Hot Shots are on the verge of folding as a team after their recent efforts to get a team out have failed somewhat . .

. . it'll be a sad loss to lose one of the league's best teams (and not to mention reigning champions) if it's true :(

They were def the best team in croydon

Really?

Oh Sh1t !!!!

Quick, you best let Mark or Bob know, as they've told the Trophy Engravers to put someone else down as League Champions . . .

Is this the summer league team that is folding or winter as well?

On a serious note however. . .

Big loss to the league if this is the case.
Will it affect the Winter Hot Shots team?

Another high profile victim of lack of players.
Surely strengthens the argument to reduce the team sizes.

I'd imagine it's just the Summer Hot Shots that are calling it a day . .

. . they're currently without Rod Altes, Nigel Clarke, Ian Clarke, Sean Halligan and I think Dino Nair and Michael Brown rarely make appearances so it's no wonder why they want to call it a day . . .

. . that said I'd be surprised to see most, if not all of those above not reappear for the Winter but with the forms coming out in the not too distant future all will be revealed!

Its no suprise really to be honest. With players travelling the length and breadth of London, let alone Croydon to play for them, it cannot be sustainable forever.

I take my hat off to the Clarkes etc who travelled from Barnet every week, and for one dont blame anyone for not wanting to carry that commitment on.

After 6 years and 40 players they might be satified with winning the league once and being considered one of the leagues mighty teams if only for a fleating moment.

Where's Harry?

This thread has been up for at least an hour and he's not tried to tap anyone up! Does anyone know if he's ok? Something might have happened!

Chaos, I thought you had gone.

The C of C cannot ever be taken away from them, and it is extremely unlikey that any team from this league will ever replicate that. Hats off to them for that.

I do hope they attend the presentation this year so that all the teams in the league can give them the credit they deserve for that achievement.

I said it then, and I'll say it again, a truly amazing achievement which merits every congratulations it gets.
They done the league proud.

It makes our Winter League win that much better, and I don't mean that in a gloating manner, it's a compliment.
I rate the Hotshots side of the last 2 years as good as anything I've seen, so to pip them to a title speaks volumes for how well we played.

From a league point of view, to lose not just one of the best sides in our league, but one of the best sides in the UK, is a sad day for the CDPL.

I throughly enjoyed playing against them over the years both for the Pawleyne and the Eagles.

They're the only thing that have kept the Eagles going over the past few years . . To win the treble against them, to the lose the double to them and fight to get the league title back once more is the only reason the Eagles existed as there was no other team who could compete . .

Myself, Michael, Dino, & the Clarkes will not be making a return in the winter im afraid. I myself have played League Pool for 25 years and its time to have a break. Dino hardly ever picks up a cue these days, Michael is concentrating on his career as a teacher & the Clarkes were just finding the travelling a pain. I hope the League goes on to bigger & better things and im not counting out a return in the future. Met some nice people over the last 5 years and I wish you all well. Sean Halligan.

Sorry to see you all leave :(

I for one will miss the Eagles v Hot Shots matches as they're the only ones that are worth playing in :(

Or not to mention the 'Clarkes' only bothered to play 11 or so league games last season and you just won the last league by only a handful of points plus the odd deduction here and there for a late card....

They won on merit in the end so it was all fair.

If any of the Hot Shots are looking for a team in the Winter, then look no further than The Rack Pack! :D

Although, it will be sad if they do fold for good.

We all know how good Rod is but it's a testiment to Sean,Micheal and Dino how easy they make the game look and young Nigel, if he keeps his hunger will one day be a superstar. As Danny said it's very hard to keep your hunger over the years, we raised our game because we had to,as the Hotshots are so good. For the realative small time they have been in league they have left their mark on the league along with teams like the Characters, the Cheeters and the original Drillers.Well played Sean.

I take it the Hot Shots are playing tonight, i don't want to see them fold, but i also don't want to travel to lewisham for no reason either.

at the moment we are staying around for this season but with only myself, lee and mark and surported by michael eldridge and charlie and simon making the odd cameo.
i myself have no real wish to play anymore and have given up playing county too and i am only playing at the mo due to loyalty to simon but in the winter i think that the hotshots team will consist mainly of coach and horses players plus lee and mark

It's commendable that you're planning on seeing the season out considering how many teams drop out with no regard to the implications :clapping:
