Thanks very much for your congratulations ! The line of luxury caravans tempted us to stay for the night, but we eventually decided to go home !! Those pikeys are a pain in the proverbials ! Backwards and forwards to the toilets all night ! Do they all have weak bladders or could there be another reason ? I wonder !

THE ADDICTS 4-3 MAGNUM FORCE
Well done to the pond last night. A few more points next week gives us second. Still waiting for the legion score to see if we have a chance for a epic title decider playing them last game of the season.

Left at 2-0 down last night i should have made it 1-1!!
Yellow and black over the hole i screw back and instead of potting the yellow the white ball goes 3ft up in the air and off the table! Useless
Disapointed with the pond last night. They turn up with 7 but only put 6 on the card and we have to pick again at 3-3. Surely there must be a rule that if you turn up will a full team and they are all registered they should all play?
Why register Pat if your going to turn up and not play?! :bite:

Surely that's his choice if he wants to play, he might of had a bad arm or shoulder or just didn't feel right, you can't say to him that if he doesn't play then he can't come out tonight.

A strange point of view Scott, with the new five-a-side league coming up in a few weeks time. I hope that you're not too upset at some of the strokes that will undoubtedly be pulled !! The Bromley Cue Masters used to turn up with about fifteen players and spectators, but never have more than six players ! They abused the rules because they only had six good players and they got away with it for years. We tried to get the pick-again rule slung out years ago but the vote went against us !! At last it has been abolished, but at the expense of having smaller teams. In my opinion, this is a wrong move, but let's see how it works in implementation !! I remain as optimistic as ever !! Incidentally, the reason I didn't play is that I didn't have as much time to practise as I would like. I look after my grandchildren on Mondays,Tuesdays and Wednesdays and until this changes,I can't see me playing much !! Sorry to let you down! I know that you've got a picture of me on your bedroom wall !

First of all we could have used the Goodies' trandem as our team bus last night. Secondly in all the time I've played for the Cuemasters I can only remember one time when we had a registered player present who we didn't pick on the night when we only had 6. The twins' dad and his works manager used to run the team but were never registered and they sometimes brought other friends along for a beer.

Scott,I don't think that you realise how busy I am since I took very EARLY retirement !! I would love to pinch a few of your players, but I have a policy of never doing so if the team is still in existence. I believe that the most promising way forward would be for you to attend lion-impression classes for a couple of months. Go to the Farley, hang about in the toilets until a strange looking bloke wearing glasses approaches you !! He'll probably mumble something about raising your station in life and ask you to roar at him !! If you manage to unnerve him,you will probably be invited to join his team. As I don,t wish to infringe any human rights, the team and the individual shall remain nameless !!

So smashing balls around the table, by yourself, this Monday night at Suzy's was looking after your grandchildren?
I think the stunt you pulled last night at the Warbank is nothing short of an embarrassment. Promoted by pulling a stunt like that. Well done Pat, thats really brave of you.....

sorry pat thats totally untrue about us abusing the rules by having all these supposed players sighned up! as phil says most was just people from the club or friends who had no interest in playing for the team so would just occasionly turn up to watch, i always respect others opinions but i also think facts should be backed up before a comment like that is posted accusing us of abusing the rules as you put it!. this season we have struggled from start to finish finding a team and last night we had just 3 players! in fact if a table is published for the team who has fielded the least number of players for the duration of the season i am sure we would be top and that is something none of us are proud of.

Alex, when I say that I look after my grandchildren,I should have explained that it is during the day.The kids are very fortunate to have two parents who take them from me when they return from work. I did manage to get down to Suzy's on Monday evening,as you rightly say,but I gave up my table to one of the quarter-finalists. I felt that their need was immediately greater than mine !! What a magnaminous gesture upon my part ! Sadly you know very little about such courtesy !! :bite:

Perhaps I am over-exaggerating the Bromley Cue Masters history. When we were first formed about ten years ago the Cuemasters were in the bottom division along with us.I believe that they had just been demoted from a far higher division for playing unregistered players. So we saw quite a lot of them during our formative years ,normally just trying to stay in their slipstream !! They were always very well supported ! I didn't know that their supporters couldn't play pool. They have always been perfect gentlemen and a pleasure to play against. I was just trying to make the point that any player's participation is entirely up to the individual !!

I think this is the age old dilema in a "friendly" pool league, of our 9 players we have 1 that is definitely not Divison 2 standard (no it not Brian Clarke and his webbed feet ;)) but gets a semi-regular game for us because he is part of our team and has been for a good couple of years. I think if we turned up with our 6 strongest players every week I'm confident we would have been a lot closer to promotion than we are.

cheers Pat. I started playing for them in about Divison 3 when they were on their way back up the league. We used to have mre 'supporters' in those days than we have players now.

legion won 7-0. addicts would need a 7-0 to take the top spot. 6-1 would be drawing points.. what does it come down to if this is the case?

Only an extremely unlikely 7-0 victory for the Addicts over the Legion would give the former the title. If they were to win 6-1 it wouldn't be good enough, because in the event of the teams finishing level on points, the win ratio becomes a factor. The Legion have won more games and would therefore win the division ! If John Frith turns up again, they should be able to manage the one game that they need !:lol:

Because Pat, you have the ability to take gamesmanship to the next level. Turning up with a full side and only playing 6 of them for starters. Whilst not breaking the rules certainly it stretches those rules to the limit. If you can sleep at night knowing you went to the Warbank and EARNT a promotion spot, then good for you mate.

Alex, the rules are the rules.I haven't stretched them. They are clearly defined to ensure that people like you can't abuse them !! I think turning up with 7 fit to play players and playing 6 is against the spirit of the game, and surely isn't the intention of this rule...
I wasn't aware that you could use it in such circumstances and if as you say Pondlife you can, then it should be stopped.

Its about time the pick again rule was abolished completely, then these arguments would not arise.
Has it been removed for the 2x5 frames for this Summer league ?

I think this is the kind of thing that needs to come from the 'spirit' as you termed it, of the individuals involved and not the rules.
There are always going to be grey areas which you can't cater for with the rules and this is where respect for the game and your opponents comes into play.
For instance say you ruled that if you had a full squad then you can't use the rule of six. Then what happens if one of your players takes a call in the match and has to leave before he plays, or suddenly falls ill? You might say in this case the squad isn't deemed to be full so you could use that rule of 6, but who decides if a player is or isn't fit to play? There will always be caveats open to exposure. Just need to respect the spirit of the game as you say and everything will be good.
Personally I completely agree, for what it's worth, that if you have 7 fit players, then you shouldn't be given the advantage of playing only 6. Would seem to be completely against the 'spirit' (as I interpret it) of that rule! :elol:
Just one other thing as well... I know that if I was the 7th player, and wasn't played in place of a player playing twice, it would certainly be my last appearance for that team! I'm all for personal sacrifice for the team, but that's pushing it a bit I think! :chair:

Yes. If you a player short you are 2-0 down. Simple.

Paul,I respect your point of view. As I said earlier,I was keen to see this rule 35 abolished many years ago. However, the vote was lost ,mainly on the grounds that some teams were struggling to field 7 players on a regular basis ! I always rigidly adhere to the league rules and perhaps it may be time to re-consider the necessity for this one. Please have a word with your secretary who would have to submit a written proposal,in order for it to be discussed at the next meeting . Fortunately it will not be a problem in the summer five-a-side league as it has been suspended for the duration of the trial !! :wrong:

Thank you Pat, I shall bare that in mind
Incidentally its not a five aside league. Its a minimum of 5 a side league.
I dont see any significant changes in both my winter and summer leagues selection policy, in that all 7/8/9 will get a game.

Rule 17 - If, at the end of a season, teams are on level points and wins then they will Play-Off at a neutral venue to decide either Promotion or Relegation.
Any Play-Off will be staged at Rileys (as per sponsorsip agreement)

Paul, you say that the summer experiment is not a five-a-side league. The situation is that any team can get away with playing the same five players in every game, ishould they wish !! I'm sorry but that makes it a five-a-side league as far as I'm concerned !! :wall:
