Tonight sees the quarter finals of the league cup,all games to take place at Rileys (suzi q's)
runners and riders:

Prop v Patriots:with one trophey already in the bag the patriots will be up for the double but expect the Prop to get revenge 8-6

Legion v Farley Eden: legion are flying high in div 2 at the moment but the Eden have hit a rich seam of form 6-8

Eagles v Bloodhounds: the bloodhounds are a bit of an enigma at the moment beating the Patriots 6-1 then losing to the SAS they have told me they might be short of players for tonights match if this is the case they might find it an uphill struggle even with me playing, tonight we have no Shaggy,Jake or late signings Olly and Yappa 8-5 ?

Elmer cue masters v hotshots:have to admit I don't know much about Elmer cuemasters poss know 3 or 4 of their players but the Hotshots are officially the best pub pool team in England so 3-8 ?

If anyone is short, I'll sign, as I'm there tonight, and will even see out the remainder of the Cup games if they are all on Mondays, and all at Suzis.

:D

Can't do Tuesdays, so only available for Cup if anyone is interested in an old ex-Drillers, ex-Croydon, chopper.

PM me in secret ;)

still think the draws all wrong, not right you can face a team in the quarters who you have already played in the 1st group stage!
prop 8-5 the patriots
legion 5-8 farley eden
bloodhounds 3-8 eagles
hot shots 8-4 the elmer

I would imagine the Elmer boys (if some are ex-cuemasters) play very open pool so that should suit Hot Shots. I think the match will be a lot closer than some are saying though.

Prop to gain revenge on the Patriots, and Eagles to squeeze past the Hounds. Eden v Legion is going to be tight, every match has always been so can't see much giving this time.

The Mighty Eden remain on course for another trophy, beating the Legion 8-4 after being 3-1 down it was a great comeback.

Awesome finishes from Rab and Barry twice!

I think the patriots were 7-5 up v prop so looks like we will be playing them in the Semi's.

Hotshots won 8-2 ish i think and Ego's 8-6 ish (i belive this one might have been 6-6 but not sure).

Last night was a usual Eden - Legion encounter (Tense & close throughout)

we went 2-0 & 3-1 down 6-3 up then 8-4 winners, Some huge performances on the night from both teams

Rab break dish for us as did Glen for Legion & Chris Brooker in his 2 frames potted 15 consecutive balls only to miss the black against me for a clean sweep - We were fortunate to win the 1st set of 7 but after that there was only gonna be 1 winner as we moved through the gears & as said some nice finishes along the way

It's a shame that it's telegated the Dukes in the process . . Never mind . .

The Bloodhounds are a good side so how they've been involved in a relegation battle is beyond me . . Nice bunch of blokes too . . Were unlucky in the last frame and deserved the playoff but we'll take the win all the same . .

Steve Aldridge draws pretty red squiggly lines . .

Last time I looked the Legion were a Divison 2 side, and looking at the last stats on this site Barry has won 7/17 and Rab 6/15.

Not a criticism of either of these by the way, I havent seen enough to comment, but not exactly pulling up trees against other Div 1 players, as you would make out.

Rab did a very good clearence by all accounts, i didn't see it, i was on a fag break & Barry played well in the 2 frames i saw him play.

I think we were more than unlucky to be 4-3 down from the first 7 frames & then could have easily have taken more than we did in the second half, i think 8-4 was a bit flattering for the Eden in the end, although they probably did deserve the win.

It was tough losing to them, they have some nice people away from the pool table as individuals, Truey is a really nice bloke along with a couple of others, but together as a team around a pool table is a different thing, i still hate the over reaction to straight foward shots & the mass over reaction as a team to the winning of some very average frames. Just find it all very un nesessary & disrespectful to their opponents sometimes, but hey, i guess thats never gonna change.

Good luck to them in their Semi-Final

Truey or should it be falsey:the "achievements" of your rabble do not interest me in the least. Your infantile behaviour has alienated your team to every other side in the league who have had the misfortune to play against you. Upon hearing that the Eden were about to fold, the League were offered a very generous sponsorship from the Noise Abatement Society. You then stole several players from another Farley team and decided to continue with your feeble existence. The sponsorship offer was immediately withdrawn on the grounds that we could not guarantee consistently regular noise levels !! :):)

dont think those eden lads will ever change! hope they never do, most important thing is being quite during the shot as long as an opposing team does that then i dont really worry! plus best way to stop any team whos loud is to beat them! works every time.
great effort last night by the prop to come from behind to win the match. and also the bloodhounds to take the eagles so close especially over a longer distance...
unfortunately the cuemasters didnt do themselves justice against the hot shots and for some reason the match didnt start until gone 9pm, dont understand that one.
two hard to predict semi finals! i go for eagles v eden.

I agree that over the 1st 7 you should have been 5-2 up at least & from that point we grew in confidence

Tale of the tape(Ish)
1 - I go game, miss Clive tucks up & takes it out
2 - Steve misses & Chris takes out a nice clearance
3 - Scott has numerous chances & keeps fouling then eventually Glen missed a difficult black
4 - Steve does not cover a bag & get s beat
3-1 Legion and deservedly so
5 - Arthur & Andy have a battle both miss balls & Arthur gets the frame thanks to a great double
6 - Rab B/D
7 - Barry misses a glorious chance then gets a gift after an easy miss on frame ball by opponent
Eden sneak into a 4-3 advantage
8 - Taylor v Fieldsy - The most boring frame ever  but Steve has command & in the end wins after a mistake
9 - Me v Chris - I again go game & again miss, Chris then takes out a nice finish but misses difficult black, i tuck get 2 & take it out
10 - Glen B/D
11 - Scott takes out an unusual finish but effective
Eden on the hill
12 - Barry takes out a nice finsi with 2 after Andy got unlucky and snookered himself

I guess we deserved to win, but the Legion could/should have punished us in the early/mid frames - And we will need to improve if we are to beat a very resilient Prop side (Who produced a class performance to come back yesterday)

As always a grudge match & reasonably clear that the 2 sides do not really get on, but that will always be the case after various encounters over the years - I have no grudges but still Eden through & through :shag:

I personally think the Prop are favourites, though not guaranteed, and the Hotshots v Eagles is a flip of a coin.

I'd say we have won slightly more matches over the last couple of years, but they dicked us thoroughly in last years final.

All four teams will have confidence that they can get through. Over the 21 frame final, I would make the winner of the Eagles/Hotshots game strong favourite.

A fair representation of the match By Truey, & i have no problem with teams being vocal, or disagree with beating them is the best way to silence them.

I just think its over the top to cheer & growl in someone's face ( to all intense purposes) after you have beaten them at one frame of pool. Its just a game & most people play it for enjoyment & a night out with their mates, in the past, this sort of behaviour has caused some adverse reactions from players or teams who play against the Eden, so im sure i am not alone in thinking this.

A smile, a shake of the hand & a good game mate. Is just a more pleasant way to finish a game in my opinion. After all it is just that to most people, just a game.

Im not asking the Eden to change their ways, i am just stating what i think.

Match wise I think its a pretty fair summary of the opening set, we could and probably should have been 5-2 down rather than 4-3 up. Having said that I don't we think got the run of the balls most of the match and it took Rab's B&D to settle the team. Once we got our noses in front we played some clinical stuff.

As for the rest Chris, you're not the first to slag off the Eden and you won't be the last to slag us off. It all sounds sour grapes fella and lets face it as competitive sides on and off the table we don't like each other. We're both big enough to live with that.

Rab played most his games in Div 2. Think he is 5/9 for us since he signed. Barry has improved massively since he joined and I wouldn't write too much into his stats this season. For me, the proof was there last night from both of them. They don't lack the stomach for it and there are plenty of Div 1 players without that....

My post was simply an attempt at humour by going for the opposite of what had just been predicted.

However, I think the Eagles/Hot Shots game will be close but given that this is Hot Shots' only chance at a trophy this season I think they will just nick it.

Fair comment, as I have said I havent sen them play, but Farley insisting that are the pool equivalent to the second coming appeared a little misplaced to me.

Anyways, my two cents worth:

I love the Eden's passion, the 7/8 players on the touchline get right behind their man in every frame, but I can understand how it grinds people up the wrong way.
Eden are the Marmite of Croydon Pool, Love them or Hate them.

The league would not be the same without them, so I'm glad they'll be carrying on.

As I said though, I can understand why it rubs people up the wrong way, when they're on the asscend, it can be construed as aggressive cheering if you're not used to it.

The first time I encountered them it certainly opened my eyes, but you do get used to it, and I wouldn't want them any other way now.
Long live the Roar!
So long as it never crosses the line into dis-respect, then there's no problems in my opinion.

You should see some of the antics in Yarmouth, the Eden wouldn't even register vs. some of the teams up there. . . . It's proper fierce!

I think that we (the Eden) are simply misunderstood. Team spirit and support of team mates (including vocal support) is necessary if a team of pool players who only play once a week and mainly do it for the laugh are going to have a chance against players who take it far more seriously and play pool as a normal part of their lifestyle.

I am sure we occasionally overstep the mark (mainly scott) but that is just some of us getting carried away.

If you watch any prem football match you will see players snarling all over the place and huge vocal celebrations, thats a big part of home advantage and if we can create that when we are away then even better.

In fairness to the legion i was quite impressed with how they played and the result was not a fair reflection of the game overall, prob more like 8-6 would have been a better reflection but at crucial times they made mistakes which shifted the whole balance of the match. Our clearances toward the end of the game were the difference for me.

Good luck to them and hope to see them back in div 1 next winter, i think they would do better than some of the teams have this year.

As you well know when we have had a personal chat, i will always support, give it the big one, praise any team that plays out of The Farley... Dont matter if they win the Treble 2005/ 2006. The Interleague Knockout Cup 2005/ 2006. Or Finish last in Div 5...

Surely no Coney player has the ability nor winning hunger to ever grace The Mighty Eden, apart from that i'm not sure you could afford the transfer fee, i still have a year on my contract so you can't have me on a Bosman.

If Mr Spry is keen on playing next season it will be interesting to see who signs him. He has been an absolute rock on 1 for the Coney through the years. If he was more interested in pool he could really become deadly but unfortunatlely his penchant for wanking (and playing snooker) gets in the way :wrong:

Yep, I still think Rob is under-rated. In the 2nd half of this season he has been unbelievable. I'm hopeful that a good few of the Coney players might want to get involved after a bit of a break.
