Quite correct Sir Tony Nuttman.
I am surprised Daniel could make such a schoolboy error considering we have defeated you twice this season......

2nd, 3rd, 4th best, I'll let you choose.
Because it makes no odds to me when we defeat not once but twice in a month a team stacked full of Interleague, County and International players.....

Damn. You didn't reply with what I thought you were going to reply with. That's ruined everything.
I guess I had better do some work now
Oh . . By beating us twice that must make you league champions. I'll send an email to Mark Halsey regarding engraving the trophies. I'll try and remember to tell him it's the Farley Eden and not Eden Cues.
I'll cc you into the convo . .

Anyway, whilst Daniel contemplates jerking off over one of his league champions trophies, I'll stick to the thread and make some predictions:
Hot Shots -v- Rack Pack
Its now or never for Harry's boys. They have to win the game, hope results go their way. Its still in their hands. Hot Shots will have to make do with the runners-up spot this year barring a total collapse by the Eagles. You cannot help but think what would have been if the Clarkes had committed to the cause from the outset of the season.
Result: 4-3 Hot Shots (sorry Harry).
Bloodhounds -v- Unpreds
Knocky mentioned above that ex-Drillers duo in Hoy and Samuels are playing for them tonight. Quite surreal really isn't it? For its the Drillers demise that will probably keep both these sides in the top flight next season. Having said that, the Bloodhounds with a weaker squad deserve another crack whilst the Unpreds have produced two disappointing seasons for a team with such quality. Rack Pack will lose tonight and the Unpreds will breath a sigh of relief....
Result: 4-3 Bloodhounds.
Eagles -v- Bromley Cuemasters
The Cuemasters will want to take a leaf out of the Eden's book this season and complete a double of wins over the champions elect. All eyes on Daniel Evans as he attempts to edge closer to the divisionals and what will be a personal treble of Croydon Open, Croydon Singles and Divisionals should his bum stay intact! My feel is the Cuemasters have lost momentum away from home and the Eagles will cement the title tonight. Result: 5-2 Eagles
Coney -v- Patriots
The new Knockout Cup champions travel to Beckenham and whether they will suffer from last nights victory is the only question. On paper they should beat the Coney who of late have struggled to field a team. The Coney still long for a third year of finishing above their mentors the Eden, so may make an effort in the last 3 weeks.
Result: 4-3 Coney
Eden -v- S.A.S
We have no desire to finish above the Coney, and will not engage in silly and pathetic competitions that have no bearing or interest to us. So we will be at full strength tonight albeit with a touch of Jose Mourinho squad rotation....
Result: TBC

think we will be happy when the season closes and rebuild for next winter, we will be short of players tonight so i think any talk of a double over the champions elect is a big ask!
hotshots 5-2 the rat pack
bloodhounds 3-4 unpredictables
eagles 5-2 cuemasters
coney 3-4 patriots
eden 5-2 sas

Hot Shots 5 -2 The Rack Pack
Bloodhounds 3-4 Unpredictables
Eden Cues 5-2 The SAS
Coney Cues 4-3 The Patriots
The Eagles 5-2 Bromley Cue Masters
---------------------------------
league table after tonight if my predictions are correct
Eagles 138 - champions
----------------------------------
Hotshots 126
Prop 115
Patriots 98
Cue Masters 95
Eden 86
Coney 80
Unpred 76
Bloodhounds 75
-----------------------------
RIP 67
SAS 36
Rack pack must win tonight and hope the Bloodhounds win to drag the unpredictables back in to it
If they win against the national champions this will give them a cat in hells chance if they lose they have a maximum of 11 points to gain from the remaining 2 fixtures and they are likely to be around 8 points back. In summary the RIP are down unless they win tonight
Eagles Chapions once more and are likely to be crowned tonight well done boys

4 again last night. A couple of our regulars had unavoidable commitments and we of course do not have the squad to cope. Fortunately our turning up short has only penalised us and hasn't really affected the championship or relegation battles. But to turn up against the champions elect and be 2-0 down before a ball is struck is pretty soul-destroying.

4-3 to the Patriots. well played guys and did well to come back from 3-1 down.
The fight has quite simply gone from a side that know they have nothing left to play for this season and are folding at the end of it.
All about the end of season piss up now against the sas after the Rack pack got turned over last night 7-0. We defo cannot go down so the final ever coney match should be enjoyable all be it somewhat drunken in two weeks time and maybe of course finally set the prop Jinx to rest next week...maybe might not be there myself tho.
Well played guys and congrats on the Knockout cup

Think the Hotshots are on 128 to be honest..
Anyway Alex have you achieved your goals this year????Was middle table obscurity the aim?? Or is the annual beating of a decent side a long the way good enough to float your boat?
The Legion appeared keen to be playing against you in the Cup, so that trophy potential could be disappearing anytime soon as well.

Amended the table above. Forgot their result last week was not added.
Our goal each season starts off the same, to keep playing Div 1 pool as its the only place to be these days, so we're doing something right. Beating the National Champions and yourselves (twice) along the way is never our goal as we turn up and expect to win those games :winking: We have never had time for big reputations, you surely know that by now.
I'm sure the rest of the Eden boys will be glad to learn the Legion are keen to be playing us and I can't say we were disappointed when we learnt of the QF draw. After all its the locking of horns of two old enemies which of course always adds a bit of spice to any fixture.

Berty - Good luck with the end of team/season curry and piss up, it is just a shame you dont have any meaningful trophies to look back on.... Surely every team is judged on achievements?
I heard a rumour that Saxton has offered to carry the Coney on in the Summer (as you only need 3 players) but you would rather break up the team? It would be a real shame to give up that div 1 status, and as we all know things can change. You might want to play again in a year or so but if youve folded you would have to spend 5 years going through all the divs again.
I would say we are going to miss you but...... :chicken:

do the maths
James Lives in Oxford - does not want to continue
Merv lives in Portland - Has said he wants to finish
Spry has wanted to finish for a season at least
Ansell lives in Guilford
Rhys moves to Milton Keynes in 3 weeks
Dippy is more than happy to finish
I have wanted to finish for 18 months
Donna was just helping out
Luke will prob continue but wants to be in a competitive team which the remains of tis team unless it merges would not be he may go to the cuemasters.
Saxton may be going to the lodgers.
In summary those who want to continue the team next season as the coney maybe saxton but other than that zero.

As always said & i guess the same is true of the coney
If we did not sign the 3 new players & get an old 1 back then yes we would have folded - i guess if they could sign some new blood then Saxton would carry it on, it is clearly a sad situation that a team has to fold after the years of hard slog to get to & stay in Div 1 - but i guess we all get other things we need to do - The Coney Cuemasters has a ring about it, so do the right thing....
Oh yes did Danny Evans & Hugh Telford play on Tuesday or did they get the free frames ?
Posted by Shaggy on 24-04-2008 16:48

They both played. Danny won, Hughie lost.
Winning the league is more important than one or both of them winning something as an individual.
I honestly don't see how people can look at a winners trophy in the knowledge that they have ducked playing.

couldn't agree more Mr Wildman
Just earlier in the season (Against the mighty SAS) i heard that someone did not play when they only had 5 (No names but it wasn't Danny)
As i said to Scott the other week - no matter what you have to play and win the frames rather than hiding and nicking a trophy - pathetic
Looks like it is Danny's to throw away - I see he has only lost 1 frame
that he has played in & in the singles final - Not a bad season if he can hold it together & finish with a flourish - good luck (Only in the final though - hope you get stuffed in the 2 final league games :elol:)

Wasn't there for that game..
But my theory is that you dont change positions. If it means you are playing there best player then so be it. If you deserve it you will win it.
Both Danny and Kyle have been excellent for us this year at 1 and 2, and there seems no reason to change it.
It does appear thats not the case with everyone. Heard a rumour that Graf was asked by another player in the running for Divisonals/Rankings to move from his normal position to play Danny...
Fortunately this plan didnt work.
Could be all nonsense though!

It is a shame but it's easy to see why they have to fold. I'm glad you lot are carrying on. I think it won't simply be a merger of the Coney and Cuemasters, there may be one or two from the Elmer as well.
Fair play to Danny and Hughie. Shirking at number 6 or 7 was never an option. Hughie had to pick again and chose Stuart Thompson, who is our highest player in the rankings this season, simply because he had beaten Hughie at our place and he wanted revenge.

Hughie did indeed play at no. 7 against the SAS that was my fault as I pick the team. Hughie gave me a bollocking about it and I promised not to do it again. I thought I was doing the right thing, I wasn't, so from that moment on I decided unless somebody needs to be dropped through loss of form or Nuttman virus(loss of bottle) I will be playing my normal line up. I could have played both Danny and Hughie at 6 & 7 on tues but they both wanted to play.

Hughie has improved no end this season playing as well as he did 15 years ago, but it's Danny's season, being in singles final & top of the individuals(even though he missed a game and I dropped him for a game) I think so far is a fantastic achievement :worship:

the coney cuemasters mmmmm who knows.!.! i think as it stands with the team we probably wouldnt carry on next season as the players who can play regular all want to play competitive pool and unfortunately due to other players work and family commitments this is impossible... considering we are probably the worse turned out team in terms of being short for matches i think we have done great to stay up but that wont last. next winter league i think the elmer and bromley teams will more than likely reform as the one team and hopefully luke davis will stay on and play in the team if the coney do indeed fold. if this happens we will have a very strong and competitive line up for the 1st time in many years.... the thing i noticed about the eden in our last match was the hunger and competiveness throughout the team which there new sighnings have added and for to long this league has been about who finishes 4th behind the prop eagles and hot shots and im sure they would welcome a challenge from other teams next season. the eden have proved they can compete with 3 fine wins against the big 2! the patriots also done great by beating the prop in the KO cup final, even the unpredictables have the team on paper to threaten but have been a massive dissapointment this season again.! we feel with a revamped team we could really trouble the top teams and that is what we are looking to achieve next season.

The other thing to mention is that it was the davis family that brought us all to this league wheras before none of us had really played in a league or really even played much pool to be honest. We all played for the Coney without really much interest in what went on around us. Now that the Coney is folding I doubt there will be much interest from anyone in continuing playing pool in any capacity apart from Luke and saxton and more power to them. Merv will get his fix in Portland and other than that I think golf is on the cards!

Plus we will all have the added bonus for you not logging on the site once you've folded, and thats what I am looking forward to the most.
Oh, and of course not having to see you all again.....:pop:
Apart that is from Rob Spry who has always wanted to sign for us since he was going to school in his shorts. I've all ready told Rob we'll not make him have to undertake a play-off before each match.

It is unhealthy to talk about another man as much as you do about me and to hang on every message that we post on this site but as long as you enjoy it that is the main thing. I think you are just struggling to believe that there is life after pool which I am gonna take a stab at and say there probably is.

I won't miss you Berty, not even one incey wincey little bit. The day I defeated you, 'Bashing Berty' as you put it, was done and the most enjoyable moment I have and will ever experience on a pool table. I sense you will be disappointed to hear that, but it's true.
From a Croydon Pool League perspective a team who folds and drops off the radar is not good news.
But CPDL will continue and its sad to say but true, that in no time at all what the Coney achieved or didn't achieve will be long forgotten and you will be just become a statistic on a long list of teams who failed to either cut it or keep afloat.
If you don't want me to respond then its best you don't entice me to post a reply. After all, I can tell all this is getting you down.

I didn't realise that once we are no longer in a team that we are barred from the CDPL web site!! How are we going to get our Alex bashing fix?
And you obviously realise there is no point in me playing a one frame decider, at last... you rate me:drunk:
I have always rated you Rob as a talented player, but I think you have misunderstood the comment I made or maybe Berty has over the period of time manipulated that comment.
Its fair to say Matthew in the past has been guilty of placing you up there with the top players in Div 1. What I said was that the stats will prove thats not the case and it's easy to 'overate' someone. I think and stand by my comment that Matthew did just that.
We don't do one frame play-off deciders to earn yourself a start in the Eden team. I am the Captain and I pick the team, it's that easy and is far less stressful for all concerned. ;)

I still rate rob but by his own admission has never converted it consistently but such is the standard in div one that even if you are naturally talented you have to give yourself that extra 5% by practising which rob simply does not do.
Anyway there are 101 things i could say about everying you put on here but there is literally no point cos 1. you cannot let rest until you have the last word & I can't be arsed to argue and 2. they are related to pool and in 2 weeks that will have precisely zero bearing in my life.
So I will repeat fair play to ya and good luck. If it settles the argument I am am a shocking captain that had a thoroughly unhappy team around him based on poor decisions, picking my mates and holding play offs before matches.
The guys all hate me what can I say.
take it easy and good luck in everything you decide to undertake in life

From a Croydon Pool League perspective a team who folds and drops off the radar is not good news.
But CPDL will continue and its sad to say but true, that in no time at all what the Coney achieved or didn't achieve will be long forgotten and you will be just become a statistic on a long list of teams who failed to either cut it or keep afloat.
Why's that sad? We have absolutely no expectation for anything different. The Drillers are Croydon legends and (with respect) have not really been spoken about much at all since they disbanded.
Alex: If you want to be perceived as being better at pool/having more friends/a bigger penis/better glasses/a better geek chic wardrobe/larger testicles/bigger biceps/a fitter partner/nicer trainers/a bigger house/more money/a nicer haircut/better business acumen
Do you know what mate? You can have it.
But a better pool team?
Never

I agree other than that Rhys Bowen character. Got no time for him. Evil.
Merv however is officially the nicest person in the whole world.

I have no animosity towards any of you. We turn up every week to win, play with a passion and a desire to compete with the top boys. I know over the last decade we have upset certain people. I have to make no apologies for that. Though I think in recent years we have grown up a little bit!!
We had a healthy relationship with the Coney until the night Luke Davis, James Davis and Matt Palmer choose to change all that.

Berty - thanks for the info on what all your players are doing with their lives but i dont see any of them posting the same sentiments. It seems that you may be speaking for them?
Perhaps they are too scared by your "Team Manegement Skills" to disagree with your edict of "We are folding end of" to say that they might like to carry on.... :band:

Maybe he organised and won their one frame 'play-off' to see who would post the Coney's finale of sentiments....

Sorry for a lack of reply on the site recently, truly am...
Just seams that with everyone in the team reaching majorly high commitment points in their life at the moment turning up to a Tuesday night is difficult but has been manageable. Naturally these same people have hours of free time to spend trolling a website to post their sentiments on why they're giving up competitive pool?? See where I'm going with this one?
On a personal note I'm moving round lots, living in bumblefuck at the mo, have zero time for practice and severely struggle to make it to Croydon on a Tuesday night so have decided to hang up my pool cue as I can not commit to anywhere near the number of games I'd like to or that would be needed for a competitive team.
It's been a great 7 years.... starting out with the Eden, moving to the Coney and finishing with the Coney. I've met some blinding geezers. Played against and with some phenominal players. Enjoyed it all and will now happily pick up a pub cue to knock some balls around with my old man every once in a blue moon.
Hope this qualifies as another member of the team posting their sentiments.:sprint:

Alex you are like Dustin hoffman in rainman.
One frame play off
mental text
one frame play off
mental text
Pick your mates
Berty bash
One frame play off
Count the cards
wipe Rabid foam from mouth
1 2 7 9 all the prime numbers eat my own crap.
This has all got so very very very boring. Can we just kiss and make up and move on?
For the record my favourite Eden player is probably Liam Connors & Keith the legend nugget. gentlemen to the core.
