Well down to Danny Evans and Mark Hartley Miller who won their singles semi finals tonight and meet in the final. Eagles present v past.

I would imagine Danny will start as favourite, but after the way Mark played tonight, Danny will have to play well to beat him.

Should be a great final and whoever wins it will desrve the honours - they've both had some tough games along the way.

I think it has been a good singles comp this year with a few shocks on the way through and some of the main big guns not getting as far through the competition as expected

Would be interesting to see the results of Danny and Mark through the rounds, do we still have the old draws anywhere, I didnt get the emails for the first part of the season

I think Mark's best win was against Rod, not sure about Danny's best win as I dont know who he has played through the rounds.

Nicola Barber beat Tracy Ball 3 - 1, dont know result of the other semi

Scott Harrison beat Barrie Allen 3 - 2 in one plate semi, the other semi was still playing when I left

I know its been like it since year dot, and congratulations to the finalists, but its got to be time that the semis onwards are played to at least first to 7.

Best of 3/5 generally brings out rubbish pool, where players aren't prepared to risk 5 months hard work to take on a tough clearance.

Really pleased for Danny, definitley the form dog of all the players I've watched recently, playing some really solid consistently good pool.

Terrific effort by Miller aswell, and we are now guarenteed a new winner if I'm right? Always nice.

With regards to the frame format, yes, increasing match length will always let the cream rise to the top, but then that does mean that there will be less shocks.
What you will have is the final nearly always played between two top players.
I'm not saying it's a bad thing, just pointing it out.

When you get to the final stages, it shouldn't be about shocks, its about the best player winning.

I agree.

However, this comp has been dominated by the best players, so it's not like shocks appear all the time.
Jacko won it seven times, Rod probably more than that now????
The good players do tend to turn it on when required.

I agree, but that is no reason not to extend the later stages. I would definately go and watch a best of 13 final between two players. However I wouldn't travel 30 minutes to watch a bore fest best of 5 fudge match. The later often takes the same amount of time, but offers little in pool quality.

This is a generalism by the way, I realise not all finals are boring.

two very focused and tactically astute players so could be interesting, both deserve it but would favour danny but then mark beat rod so he will obviously feel confident.
