I played a few frames of scotch doubles after our match. I think it's a fantastic game. Made me concentrate a lot more on my positional play as I was leaving the next shot for my partner each time.

If wondered if there is a place for it in the league set up?

It hasn't got a place as a seperate event but IMO the Doubles format in general is absolute wank so replace what we have with this and it will make it a whole load better . .

Myself and Kyle played Sean Halligan earlier this year . . We lost 2-0 and Rod only had one shot in the whole match . . I'm not saying that's wrong but it's an odd situation where by 'doubles' can be won with one player not even having a shot . . Would be a lot more interesting and funny if it was scotch doubles . .

For those not familiar with the format, instead of each pairing having alternate visits they have alternate shots . . You could end up playing an awful shot, snooker yourself and your partner has to worry about it

Instead of Scotch doubles, make it Scotch eggs and Mr Swettenham would be very interested !!

You could make it Scotch Chair Legs and as long as you told Gary it was food he'd eat it!

I think we should have mixed scotch doubles. Get the girls involved a bit more.

Could be interesting . . .

You had to go and spoil it by suggesting something so stupid

Just cos noone wants to play with you! ;)

Seriously though weren't Rileys looking to sponsor a ladies event. A new mixed doubles comp isn't far off that . . .

they're doing that on the 9ball team event on sky at the moment(scotched not mixed). it looks more interesting than normal doubles but makes it drag on a bit with chatting every shot... hence not an option for ladies doubles!!!

Chatting in between shots is ryman . . It's much more fun if you keep the no talking rule . . You end up having to guess where you think your partner wants to be . . Otherwise you have the same scenario whereby one player can lead the other and use them in a 'puppet' manner . .

Definitely no conferring but Paddington 'hard stares' should be positively encouraged!

i can just imaging that in mixed scotch doubles...

That just gave me horrible flashback to when myself and Jacko won the doubles back about 10 years ago . . In the final I kept missing really easy finishes and it got to a point where Jacko wouldn't talk to me and we stood in opposite corners of Frames for most of the match

I just played Scotch Doubles for the first time tonight. I think its a wonderful format. Much more interesting, as it keeps you at the table a lot more. It also evens out the 2 players. As Danny was saying, You don't have the 'better' player doing all the work.
Danny, how about putting this topic up for a member Poll. I would be more than happy to forward this at the next AGM for the next Winter League. Any seconders. As for the talking, keep it, but with the minute rule.

A poll it shall have . . Leave it with me . .

If the concensus think it's a good idea I'll gladly second it . .

The same rule should apply to conferring as applies now, you can confer at the start of the visit but not between shots.

That is how it works to the best of my knowledge when played in 8-ball . .

We still going to go with the mixed doubles idea too Danny?

With World Rules I'd always understood it to be no conferring at all but I seem to remember Jeremy coming on here and saying otherwise . . .

Yep . . Mixed Doubles is rubbish in general as you generally get the bloke telling the woman what to do so this could mix it up a bit . .

No conferring at all will make it more fun and interesting IMO . .

That's exactly why I like the rules. I was able to hold my own playing scotch doubles the other night. In normal doubles I'd have automatically played a supporting role and that's not playing to my strengths.

No . . Playing to your strengths would have benn to have helped the staff with the washing up :sprint:
