Does anyone now what happens if a player fails to sign the result sheet.

This is the first time this has happened to our team so we are not too sure of the ruling. :O:

From the league rules:

39. If any player fails to sign the Result Card then that frame result will be awarded to the opposing team, and the match
result will be subject to the enforcement of Rules 41,42 & 43 as the offending player/s would have deemed
himself/herself to be an Unregistered Player.

In these circumstances,I would think that common sense would prevail.Because Nigel is such a well-known player,it is quite apparent that it was him who actually turned up and played the frame. The rules need to be more rigidly enforced in the lower divisions, where players are not as recognisable as in the 1st Division. Fame has its advantages !! Perhaps the Eden might try to finish their games earlier as a result of this. It's patently obvious to me that a player of Nigel's age was well past his bedtime when the match finished and had probably fallen asleep !!

Point 1. The match was finished at 10.15pm. :angel:

Fact 2. We are not out to claim the points for the error on Nigels part. Hence this thread to make sure common sense does prevail and hotshots get the frame they so deservedly won. :fan:

I think I was involved in a similar situation where I didn't sign the card for the second frame when picked again. Common sense prevailed. I don't think there is any need to change the rule to spell out how to apply common sense to it!

can't you just sign it for him.... you can get away with that on a credit card so i'm sure you'd be ok!!!
it's obvious to everyone that there's nothing underhand going on so i'm sure it'll sort itself out, it could vital for the hotshots to get CofC qualification!
actually, thinking about it, do they have to? i think they shouldn't have to, anyone know?

I raised this matter about 6-7 years ago at a general meeting to which I stated that I would not instigate the ruling on the 1st instance as I felt it was a bit harsh but that I would send a warning letter that if it happened again then the rules would apply. To be honest, I have not sent out any letters this season on the very rare occasion that a player has not signed the card. If a player is picked to play again then there is no problem if he/she does not sign on the second occasion as that player as already signed on the first ocasion. If memory serves me right, this rule came about when we used to have meetings at The Thomas Farley (when it was called The Wilton Arms) and it was an old secretary of the Classic Eagles, namely Tony Miller who proposed this. Don't ask me what year this came about.

that would be Tony Miller the real Mark Millers dad:lol: I used to take everything he said with a pinch of salt.Definately if the player is recognized no way can he lose a frame for a genuine oversite well done to Truey for confirming Nigel was there last night and well done to mr Halsey for using common sense.

slightly off topic but what Mark said reminded me of a secretaries meeting about twenty years ago.
Mark, fed up of 70 calls a night devised the idea of divisional secretaries. You phone your result to a divisional secretary who phones the collated results to Mark. One chap at the meeting worried about late calls stated with a stammer "wewewewwhat hahahappens if they ffffphone you up aaat tttttttttwelve oclock at nnnnnnight" to which Terry Jackson said tell them to ffffffffffffffffffffffff phone somebody else.

Tony, me thinks your wires are crossed somehow m8 but not too far off the mark. I was a Team Secretary for The Wheatsheaf-Thornton Heath at that meeting and it was at that point that I got involved in the general running of the League as a Divisional Secretary b4 taking over as secretary in 1984. What your on about was around 1983 when Peter Brooks and his other half were the main contacts for results and I believe Peter was getting a bit concerned about the number of calls and that stammer fella carried on the point. A classic moment I agree cos I recall the room erupted in laughter
