Excellent display of Eden resilience tonight. Some very tense frames but our finishing made the difference.
No one will want us in the next round for sure....

Chuckles,I thought that when we destroyed the Farley Eden on your behalf, you were certainties to win the group. Now you may not even qualify. How did your game against the Coach and Horses finish ? The winners of that game will go through as runners-up !! I presume that ,after Monday and last night, the Farley is not one of your favourite venues !!

Well played to the eden last night. They played a tactical game that would have sent even the most die hard pool fanatic to sleep! But it was effective all the same and they deserved their win. Not sure if thats how they always play but 3 hours is certainly a long time to play 7 frames. I think we have qualified as we beat the coach 4-3 and we are level on points. Not been a good week for the Imperials but its the league that matters to us and anything else would have been a bonus.

Great match last night.apart from me sinking the black from a snooker and having to see the white go in off [ frame 2 ]

Then in frame 5 we were going to dish but missed the black.
no justice :sigh:
well done to the Eden boys good luck in the next stage.

The coney are out.
The addicts played the Addiscombe last night with only a 7-0 win to either side being good enough to progress above the Coney in 2nd place.
Neither team had managed a 7-0 or even a 6-1 in the league Cup even against the whipping boys of the group but against each other with both having a chance of progression a 7-0 to the Addicts ensued???
Oh well free Mondays are no bad thing.
This has happened to us before so was not unexpected

What a sickener. Would have been a special 2nd stage group.
7-0 in the last game is massive. Both honest sides mind you and the Addicts are up there in Div 2 so capable of taking out a result like that. You are no suggesting Berty the result smells a bit?

C'est La vie. Should have made it mathematically impossible to lose out in the last game I suppose.
Not at all surprised it was 7 zip, as Berty said that's the second time exactly this has happened to us. On the bright side, seven odd hours travelling saved for me, I don't think I could have resisted playing in that group lol.

It smells a bit fishy but not much you can do about that, and the bottom line is the Coney should have enough to get through the group without having to worry about potential shinnanigans.
The Addicts prize, is the Eagles, Eden and Rack Pack I believe.

we didn't deserve to go through after losing to the addiscombe earlier in the group but if this is a 100% genuine result I would be shocked. Both teams needed to win 7-0 so i could imagine a 1 frame play off with the winner of that frame claiming a 7-0 win.
Posted by Golden on 27-02-2008 23:29

Not sure about the 1-frame playoff but it's conceivable that the match winner was 'awarded' a 7-0 instead of a 6-1/5-2/4-3 . .
I'm not saying that it happened but it's not impossible . .

If last night is anything to go by,we could be looking at regular 2am finishes from the Eden in the exciting new five-a-side summer league !! As they should be in the bottom division,it promises to be an exhilarating welcome to Croydon Pool League for any new teams. Tuesday was all about the result - we needed 5frames so i guess a cautious approach was taken - Not sure it was just us playing negative pool, but whatever we won 6-1 so i guess the imperials will say as much...

No,we didn't qualify David. But we didn't really want to.We have never liked playing on a Monday night as well as Tuesday. We have quite nice homes and families to enjoy. We obviously do not share your fanaticism !! The looks on your faces after we battered you into submission made the whole season worthwhile. An absolute classic memory even though is was about 11.30 !! Under the new rules we can play five players on a Monday night and a different five on Tuesdays,so it wont be a problem anymore. :nerner:

It is but I'll let you off ;)
That just proves my thinking in that if people actually thought about it and looked beyond "Oh they're trying to change things for the sake of it" and "It suits the Division One teams" then they might realise that we're trying to do this for the good of the league and it's members ;)

Truey, I'd say that was a serious bite! When reflecting on winning the Group last Tuesday night we all agreed that if anything loosing to what is a very average Division 2 team did us a big favour. So thanks Patrick.
I sense your jealousy Patrick as it must hurt to know you failed to put us out of the competition. I guess you also know your pretty Pond boys would have fallen short on ability let alone possessing the big danglies to produce a defining last performance like we did to qualify....
With your defeatest take on the league cup format Patrick, maybe a season or two playing in Division 3 is what you all need to realise that once upon a time when Division 1 was 'weak', you used to be a part of it..........

:bite::blah:Alex,I look forward to monitoring your forthcoming performances in the League Cup. I acknowledge that you are now the definite favourites to lift the cup. If this were to happen,it would bring me further happiness and satisfaction because I can say "we beat them earlier in that competition". I would be extremely proud of that achievement. The very best of luck in your endeavours. I think that you will need plenty !! :bite:

There seems to be an air of jealousy coming from pondlife p.c lately,
Could it be because they never made the 2nd stage of the league cup.
Seems to me and probably other site users when they don't make the grade they pick on the Eden for achieving what they always fail in.
Us edenites may lose battles but we will always win the war.

2004 Summer Knockout Cup semi final - so just once actually. And to date clearly the highlight of the Pond's pool achievements.
Semi final wins only become significant let alone worth mentioning when you go on from that victory to actually WIN the final....:winking:
Otherwise, its just embarrassing to bring it up.

Arthur, I do feel that the word"jealous" is way off the mark.I certainly do not envy you at all !! It seems like only yesterday that your mob were about to disappear into the obscurity that you so richly deserve. Unfortunately, you stole a few players from a fellow tenant at the Farley and now, all of a sudden it would appear that a renaissance is about to take place. Even a re-appearance in the summer league is being proposed, albeit in the bottom division. What a let-down for the old Dukes players who were persuaded to join the Eden in order to play in the 1st division. I believe that they may have a case against Alex for false representation. :wrong::zzz:

O.k pondlife we were going to fold the team under the old format because we could have struggled for players in the summer.
Then a proposal was sought for and found for a new format, the new format meant it is now possible to maintain the Edens good name in the league, so we also decided to sign a couple of players to strengthen our team and to replace players we no longer had.
All the players we have signed did so sign of their own free will and Mark Bannister de-registered Rab Harkness so he could play for us. to M.B
As for playing in a lower division in the summer that was our fault as last year we did not field a team for the summer.
A presidence as already been set regarding ex 1st div 1 teams who could find themselves playing div5 or 6 pool in asmuchas they got shuffled up to div 2.
I would be very much surprised if this did not happen for us.
It doesn't really matter what div we are in in the summer as we will tear teams apart at the seams.:lol:

This is what Hoydy wrote.
In answer to his question.
Had his team put more effort into playing their shots rather than trying to wear out the carpets around the pool table the game could have finished a lot earlier. :clapping:
Once again we the Eden team are being accused of slow play when we probably take less time in our shot selections than most players.
I could name a few who could and would win slow player of the year award. :one:
