That's fighting talk :box:

It's the tie of the round imo . . Francois in form disposing of former Singles winner Sean Halligan and Chris always there or there abouts at this stage of the competition . . One of the Unpredictables guaranteed to be through to the Quarters . .

Francois if it's played over a short distance . . Knocky if it's player over a long distance . .

It's interesting to see Tony Jackson's name still in the draw . . Assuming he beat Arthur Timothy, he has a tie against another 'Patriot' in the form of Paul Richards for a place in the Quarter Finals .

. . and with the Quarter Finals onwards being played at Rileys, I wonder what the situation is there? . . Could possibly see someone getting a bye through to the Semi Finals!

Just a correction there danny, the Q/F's onwards are played at Rileys in the League Cup only .... all other competition Q/F's are played as they are drawn out of the hat.

I was lead to believe that a part of the league sponsorship deal this time round was that Rileys got the Quarters onwards instead of the Semis onwards?

Here are some extracts from the minutes from the AGM last September :-

"Mark Halsey read the detailed proposal from Rileys, Imperial Way for the possible sponsorship of the League for the next three years as the Thomas Farleys sponsorship would cease at the end of the current Summer League with no intention of continuing. Rileys prepared to match the ?250 paid by Thomas Farley P.H. for Summer League and offered ?500 in comparison to the Thomas Farleys ?750 for the Winter League, but for the reduced sum, Rileys will provide free membership for all C&DPL members, one hour free practice before a match, free tables for all semi-finals and finals held at their venue and free venue, buffet and entertainment for all presentation nights, saving the League in excess of ?800 from previous years.
Rileys will have all League and League Cup semi-Finals and Finals held at their venue and all Knockout competitions semi-finals and Finals held at their venue (subject to the agreement of the other sponsors of these competitions) but as is always the case, all other competitions are still available for sponsorship.
This proposal was accepted by all present."

"Proposal re: League Cup 2nd Stage
Proposed: M. Palmer (Coney Cues) Seconded: D. Evans (Farley Eagles)
(P. Saxton and Donna Evans acting for proposer and seconder.)

League Cup second stage format changed to stop dead games in 2nd and 3rd week. 2 teams to progress from 2nd stage, creating 8 teams as Quarter-Final instead of 4 teams as Semi-Final. Will add one extra week to League Cup. Quarter-Finals played to best of 15 at League sponsors venue.

Votes For: 22. Votes Against: 0. Carried unanimously."

Only that if Jacko reaches the semis someone will get a bye into the final.

Precisely . . That would be grim . .

Id go as far as to say it would completely belittle the entire competition.

LOL ... I've had words with Jacko today and informed him that the League cannot get involved in a domestic dispute but nevertheless I have told him to contact Hanah at Rileys to see if any comprimise can be found should it be the case that he qualifies for the semi's. This seems to have been ongoing for a long time and if its not resolved then I will not be accepting entries from Jacko for Singles & Doubles KO's in the future.

I know this maybe off topic but reading the minutes again from last September re the newly formed Quarter-Finals stage of the League Cup comp. It raises a question about the trophies being awarded for the League Cup cos as it stands trophies are awarded to the WINNERS, RUNNERS-UP, SEMI-FINALISTS and 1st Stage GROUP WINNERS. It could well be that a losing Quarter-Finalist will not get a trophy and that a 1st Stage Group Winner that does not progress to the Quarter-Final stage does ..... food for thought.

To the same extent you wouldn't want to reward someone for coming second in their group twice and losing the first knock out.

Perhaps it should have been Winners of 1st Group, Upgraded if the same team wins the 2nd Group, and new if a RU from G1 wins G2, and then semis and finalists.

I take your point .... I think we will just have to see what pans out.

I will retract the statement that I made about not accepting Tony Jackson's entries for the Singles & Doubles KO in future seasons as I was out of order for making it in the first place due to the fact that the Singles & Doubles are not sponsored at this moment in time and that Semi's & Final would generally be played at the League Sponsors venue and to this I hereby apologise to Tony Jackson. I have spoken with Hannah at Rileys over this situation and if TJ does qualify for the SF and Final then these will be played at Thomas Farley as his ban still stands. I understand from both parties that tenders are to be submitted for sponsorpship of the Singles KO and if these are received before the 21st February then this will be a topic of conversation at the forthcoming General Meeting.
