Funny enough myself and Sean where talking about frame distances, and we too concluded that the frame distances are far to short for the latter stage of the tournament.
I am perfectly happy to play best of 3 up to last 8 or 16, but thereafter there should be incremintal increases in frames thereafter. I dont think its unreasonable to have best of 7, 9 or even 11 for the final.
The argument that it makes it a leveller on low frames is fine in pribncipal but even short distances their aren;t many shocks. Added to that it should be the most prestigous of individual competitions and the winner should represent the standard of the event.

that's the reason i don't ever bother entering the singles, it's not the journey out for a best of 3 or 5
there's a handful of croydon players who are more then capable making a dry break your only shot yet that can't be maintained over a longer distance!
longer distance is much more interesting as there's less luck and a bit of match/gameplay involved
